On-tap at The Belgian cafe

A - Nice dark reddish-brown body with very minimal cream head.

S - Smells of some fruit, malts, dark sugars. Smells great but not a potent aroma.

T - This beer is very flavorful. Its a nice combination of malthy bready goodness with some fruit sweetness, and some slightly sour vinegar bite. The dark fruit taste and dark sugar give it a mellow taste. This beer is a little tart and a little sweet and a little earthy. What a great taste.

M - Very smooth and slippery on the tongue. It went down very easily, as its smooth and perfectly carbonated.

D - This beer is highly drinkable. With the fresh ripe flavor and smooth body, it would be more than easy to make several of these dissappear.

Notes - I was a huge fan of this beer and I had ordered it by chamce, with no research prior. I was satisfied and I would order this again and again.

date on the back of the bottle indicates 03 14. small bottle.

A: dark brown hued. head is frothy and is rather thick. a lightly tint of brown. good retention as it has been holding true for a while now.

S: dark fruits, plums and figs. dark malts, caramel or a brown malt. the acidity is actually low on the nose. a little lower than I would prefer.

T: a sharp acidity starts the drink, but it quickly fades and dissipates. it then makes the turn to a slightly malty body, not much as it remains relatively thin throughout, but some roasted/coffee notes can be detected. gets tart again as it thins, but not to the same severity of the first sip. there are even some sweet dark fruit flavors in the middle that I am getting more of as it warms. I am also getting a mild metallic flavor as it warms that I am not crazy about.

M: mild carb, relatively light body.

D: not great in my opinion. I want more acidity, a slightly dryer body and I am not crazy about the mild metallic notes I was getting. still, always fun to a brewers interpretation of this style.

Bought at Little's liquor store. Poured into a snifter paired with popcorn. Great looking bottle design.

A&S: Transparent dark chestnut colored beer. Head is a light tan, pours less than a finger, but doesn't retain very well. The aroma is sour but not incredibly so, more tart than anything. I'm getting lots of pomegranate and cherries as well.

T&M: The taste is more sour than expected from the aroma. It isn't puckeringly sour. Lots of cherry tartness not much sweetness, but its there. Other flavors include dark fruits, Yeasty funk thrown in there. Pretty excellent texture, on the higher side of carbonation, but not sharp and the body is medium.

Probably one of my favorite sours, sour but not super sour. On par with price with most sours (5 bucks for 11.2 oz)

A: Dense, cream colored head that dissipated after about 30 seconds leaving behind a ring of bubbles on the edge of the snifter. The beer appears dark brown to almost black in the glass but when backlit shows a deep mahogony with crimson highlights. The first half of the bottle poured very clear.

S: A sexy tart cherry aroma that just wofts from the glass. Closer in reveals a complex web of sour red berry aroma with darker sugars providing emphasis for the brightness. The bready, biscuity malt aroma blends well with the overal profile, but sites idley in the background.

T: A firm oak flavor underscores the beer from beginning to end taking away from the sourness somewhat. Slightly lumber / sawdusty tasting in addition to the usual french oak character (I'm guessing here). The sourness is medium to moderate with the similar tart cherry and raspberry flavors as found in the aroma. Light bread crust malt character and toast with a sweetness that leads to the impression of a tart fruit dessert.

M: The body is crisp and dry with mild levels of carbonation. The tanins from the wood give a slight mouth drying sensation in the finish.

O: The oak was very heavy (relatively speaking) in this beer and took away from the overall flavor profile for me. The classic cherry pie flavor was there with good complexity but the balance was thrown off with the oak. That being said, I would get this beer again because it was an interesting take on the style – over oaking that is.

Bottle poured into a pilsner glass

Pours a dark reddish brown. A half finger white foam head quickly settles to a thin ring of bubbles.

Aroma of dark rich fruits, raisins, figs, cherries, brown sugar.

Taste of tart sour cherries, vinegary. Clean finish with a slight sour aftertaste.

Medium body, slight carbonation in the mouth.

Good drinkable, different change from a traditional beer. Malts with a gentle sour taste.
