A: Poured from a bottle to a tulip glass. Had a brown color with ruby tints and a thick consistency. There was a small amount of tan-colored, foamy, fairly long-lasting head. Below average lacing.

S: A good aroma of dark fruit, sugar, and malt.

T: Tasted of malt, dark fruit (raisins), apples, and a sugary components. A very well-rounded, complex and likeable flavor. Maltier than I would have expected, but it's not a bad thing.

M: A decent amount of carbonation with a super creamy-smooth finish. Medium-bodied.

O: A superior example of a Bruin. Very much a drinkable beer.

(served in a 10 oz pub goblet)

A: dark, reddish brown - like when the autumn cedar leaves stain the color of the water in a lake... only a little foam on the pour, fizzed out

S: bold presence of wood fibers, vinous, light touch of cocoa

T: tart red grape... touch of cocoa midway... grapefruit-ian sweet-tart... very delicate twiggy-woody and/or dry-roasted nutshell in the finish

M: funky-acidic bite up front, the tannin-sanded body slips on through... light-medium bodied flow and tannic bitterness midway... sour tang smeared on the sides of the mouth... disappears down the gullet, dry, mild alcohol glow

O: pretty good, pretty dry... fruity, but not sweet... bright flares jostling the palate, but not quite refreshing... can say it does seem to ignite the appetite

really well balanced sour with notes of spice, pepper, and lot of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, sourness is nice. carbonation is a little heavy, kind of distracting on certain sips, still its almost up with jacobins, as far as what I can get my hands on in this same category of beers

12 oz.

Pours a clear deep brown with a dark reddish tint. Off-white head is fine and dissipates to nothing .

Smells of tart cherry, strawberry, lemon, green apple, and Belgian candi sugar.

Tastes of tart fruit like cherries, lemon, and green apple, mixed with a Belgian candi sugar sweetness and a note of woody malt underneath. Slight woody bitterness.

Medium to thin body with tingly carbonation on the tongue.

A very nice sour, one of the better ones I can think of, and well worth trying for fans of the style and newcomers alike. Very nice balance and flavor.

Appearance: Beautiful maroon/deep crimson with an ivory head.

Aroma: While this beer does have a bold fruit nose (I sensed cherries and blackcurrants), it has a very 'deep' backbone - a hint of...scorched earth, is how I would best describe it.

Flavor: Cherry is in prominence with this one, and it has just the 'right amount' of sweetness. Breathing out into my mouth while allowing it to rest on my palate after the first sip, I sensed persimmons and possibly some anise.

Mouthfeel: Very smooth with medium-level carbonation - very 'appropriate' for a Flanders Red Ale combined with a young Lambic; not too tart, but just enough to be truly refreshing.

Overall: I highly recommend this beer for spring/fall. Personally, I find the fruit notes far to prominent for summer, but for late spring and all throughout fall, this one is ideal.

Purchased sometime in 2013 - want to say spring- making this nearly a year in the cellar

APP-deep maple, clear, low off-white head with fair retention and poor lace.

AROMA- complex, vinous nose of hey, red grape, blackcurrant, cranberry, earth, coacoa, grapefruit, dark caramel, rhubarb, anise, melon, ...and on and on....sounds messy but very harmonious and pleasant bouquet that leaps from the glass. Wonderful.

FLAVOR- much simpler than aroma as expected. lightly sweet crystal malt sliced apart by very bright and lively acidity (lactic?) rhubarb and citrus (over-ripe /spoiled grapefruit) come out prominently, a hint of tart cherry, notes of fig, tuna fruit, earth, cranberry, clover, no diacetyl, no apparent oxidation, no tannin or oaky character,

MF- light-bodied, velvety, medium-high carbonation, drying acidity that stings the lips a bit, and makes for a long finish not helped out by a light clinging bitterness

OVERALL- A disarmingly spritely oud bruin, that is lighter, more quenching and refreshing than richer examples. I get the impression that this is either a very young beer or chemically synthesized lactic acid has been introduced. It lacks the charisma of better examples but still makes for an interesting glass and at 5.5 abv this would be great bottle to bring out to parties, picnics, etc... would revisit this but would not pay much for it. Just read on the label that it is actually a blend of brune and lambic, which explains a lot, and makes me appreciate it a little more. Odd product.
