Consumed May 21st, 2014. Poured into a Bruery tulip.

Beer is a dark caramel brown. Seems murky due to depth of color, but holding to light reveals it is a deep amber with nice clarity. A one-finger light beige head forms which provides nice but short-lived sheeting.

Aroma is sweet and slightly tart cherries. Well, maybe more like cherry pits, since there is a slight woody note as well.

On the tongue, the flavor is mild and only slightly tart. The palate gets pretty much the same treatment as the nose as far as the flavors go.

Moderately lively in the mouth, the restrained but still effervescent mouthfeel on this one is pitch-perfect. Medium-bodied.

Very drinkable and no doubt quite refreshing in the heat; save your session IPAs, pilsners, blondes and shandys for yourself. I'd much rather have one of these or a proper Bavarian hef.

Color- murky reddish brown. Full, thick head.

Aroma- oak, sour cherry, buttermilk.

Taste- Starts gentle with complex semi-sweetness with slight cherry, woody tones in the mid-body, then finishing with a mild sour apple tartness. Bravo! A truly great sour ale.

Poured from a corked 750 ml bottle into a Liefmans Goudenband glass (my preferred all purpose beer tasting glass). Tasted on 11/8/2014.

Nice reddish copper appearance. Aroma is slightly metallic? That seems a bit odd. Taste is very nice up front with a tart sourness of grapes and some slight cherry, but peters out too quickly. If this had a better finish (like the Cuvee Jacobins) this would be an awesome beer.

(served in a 10 oz pub goblet)

A: dark, reddish brown - like when the autumn cedar leaves stain the color of the water in a lake... only a little foam on the pour, fizzed out

S: bold presence of wood fibers, vinous, light touch of cocoa

T: tart red grape... touch of cocoa midway... grapefruit-ian sweet-tart... very delicate twiggy-woody and/or dry-roasted nutshell in the finish

M: funky-acidic bite up front, the tannin-sanded body slips on through... light-medium bodied flow and tannic bitterness midway... sour tang smeared on the sides of the mouth... disappears down the gullet, dry, mild alcohol glow

O: pretty good, pretty dry... fruity, but not sweet... bright flares jostling the palate, but not quite refreshing... can say it does seem to ignite the appetite

really well balanced sour with notes of spice, pepper, and lot of cherry, raspberry, strawberry, sourness is nice. carbonation is a little heavy, kind of distracting on certain sips, still its almost up with jacobins, as far as what I can get my hands on in this same category of beers
