Review from BeerAdvocate Magazine Issue #50 (March 2011):
Banter about 100 IBUs and a “venomous bite,” but the DIPA is a style that is getting harder and harder to master. Reddish brassy clarity, foamy topping stays for a while. First whiff is of vegetal hops with some spicy backing, ester alcohol with some vague fruitiness and a light sweetness of caramel. A smooth enough brew. 100 IBUs strong—yeah, they’re there, nearly hold- ing the palate hostage. Spice from the hops melds with the warmth from the alcohol. Malt character is a bit biscuity and very dry; yeasty tone resides in all of that. Walking the path of pushing the hops too far without much malt to back it up and the alcohol that fumes being too high. A middle-of-the-pack DIPA, worthy of a try for that hop fix you’ve been waiting for.

Appearance: Another good looking beer from Figure Eight - pours a clear copper with a magnificent head; excellent retention leaving a few strands of lace behind
Smell: Sugary caramel tones joined by piney hops
Taste: A lot of sugary caramel flavors, up front, but the hops don't give an inch and join with a blast of piney bitterness; after the swallow, the malt and hops reach a crescendo and are joined by a bit of boozy alcohol; both the sweet and bitter flavors linger into the finish
Mouthfeel: Full-bodied with moderate carbonation and some warmth in the gullet
Overall: As I typically don't like really malty DIPAs, I wasn't expecting to like this very much but there was something about the hops they used that put me in the camp of the fans
Thanks, jonallen, for the opportunity

A- somewhat clear amber color with a white quickly dissipating head.
S- caramel and grassy, spicy, hop aromas.
T- intense grassy flavors with a healthy malt backbone to support this unusual flavor profile.
Mf- medium bodied with a slightly sticky residual presence.
Pretty good beer overall.

Really enjoy some of Figure8's beers. They are getting better and better.
This one was too big for me. Poured ok, looked ok, smelled good.
Was ready for a double IPA and then I was walloped with this overpowering taste of hops and alcohol.
I had it a few months ago, so my review may not be as detailed as I'd like.
But overall, this one had too much alcohol taste and wasn't what I enjoy or hoped for.
I prefer the citrus, smoothly hopped IPA. 10% 12% it's all good. I just dont like having it overpower the taste.
I'll stick with figure 8, but will not return to this one anytime soon.
