i like this quite a bit less than some of the others from these guys. its a deep red color, a hint at how sweet and malty it is, with a minimal and fading white head. a little haze to the dark amber liquid and a nose of dryer red malt and the same slightly funky yeast that manifests itself in all the beers in this series. i see sugar as an ingredient, suggesting the additive to increase the abv here, which i dont think adds anything. the yeast flavors this one less than the others, and in fact seems a bit underdone, like it didnt get all the sugar out. the dominant flavor here is the grain, which is a tad stale, but richer and robustly earthy. some dried fruit on the back end, red apples and figs. almost a saison style finish to this, well carbonated but still a bit heavy and sweet. i can almost feel a headache coming on, dont know what it is with these, but thats the case. an enjoyable brew, but the others were a little better i think. the 8% abv hits harder than it should.

Appearance: pours a dark amber / brown color with a huge 3" head that lasted a long time. Moderate lace painted the glass.

Smell: malt sweetness and some yeasty bread tones are pleasant on the nose.

Taste: big malty base with some toffee, black plum, fig, and a yeasty and earthy tone showing up late. Bitterness is mild but balancing. Alcohol is slightly noticeable.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer. Lightly crisp throughout with a slight dryness late. Long lasting aftertaste as the flavors linger a while in the mouth.

Overall: an enjoyable dark ale that is slow sipping. This is a hearty beer with nice flavor profile.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.

Ah, one of the members of the relatively unknown pair of Martina and Rossa... Anyway, this stuff pours a clear ruby topped by over a finger of faded khaki foam. The nose comprises light black cherry, rye bread, clove, dry caramel, a hint of chlorinated water, light dark fruits, and a touch of brown sugar. The taste brings in more of the same, with the fruity and bready notes battling it out for domination and the spices left grasping for scraps. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sorta/kinda creamy feel. Overall, a decently solid brew, something akin to a middling BSDA. It's nothing special, but it's enjoyable enough for an occasional drink.

Collesi Imper Ale Rossa Ubi has a very thick, beige head, a murkey, rust-red appearance, with tiny bubble streams up the side, and thick lacing left behind. The aroma is of fruitcake- dark, rich fruits and sweet bread. Taste is of the same, with the brandy-like alcohol shining forth. Bitterness is essentially nonexistent with this. Mouthfeel is medium and soft, and Collesi Imper Ale Rossa Ubi finishes semi-dry, surprisingly crisp, rich, and very drinkable. Overall, this is a wonderful beer.

A: Pours a very lightly hazy reddish brown in color with some very light amounts of gentle visible carbonation near the surface and moderate amounts of yeast sediment in the bottom of the glass (made up of pretty large white particles). The beer has a two finger tall creamy tan head that reduces to a thick film covering the entire surface of the beer with a slightly thicker ring at the edges of the glass. Moderate amounts of lacing are observed.

S: There is a good amount of complexity to the aroma of this beer with some dark fruit sweetness including cherries along with some yeast and spices.

T: Like the smell, there is a fair amount of complexity to the taste of this beer. There is a moderate to strong presence of dark fruits (cherry, grape, and plum) contributing some sweetness. The beer also has a moderate presence of yeast and spices.

M: Medium bodied with moderate amounts of carbonation. Light amounts of dryness in the finish.

O: I enjoyed this beer because of the complexity in both the smell and taste, it is easy to drink for how big it is because the alcohol is well hidden. This is a sipping beer to be enjoyed slowly.
