I was in Freeport last February and stumbled onto Gritty's for lunch. Great beers and a shitload of funny Mainers with their earflap-hats and focking May-nuh ahk-cents, Bub!
Food's pretty good for pub grub, the menu is pretty big and really helpful in suggesting beer pairings with the dishes... a number of which incorporate the beers on tap in their ingredients... Lots of regular patrons' mugs hanging over the bar; gift shop on premises and you can buy beer and clever T-shirts, to go.
Lots of good beers on tap; my favorite was the 'Black Fly Stout'. A true session beer that seemed to predominate all the mugs I spied on.
Wooden picnic tables in the dining room, prompt service, and seating with strangers-made-friends makes this a super-good indoor German Hofbrau-style beer bar with surprisingly good food and colorful yokel entertainment aplenty.
Fun place to visit.

sister restaurant of the Portland based grittys, a fun place to visit, but the food is a lot better than the beer. I worked my way through the whole lineup, but was unimpressed by any of them, even finding the ipa to be quite poor. the lobster rolls and lobster mac and cheese were right on though, as was the rhubarb dessert. maybe six or seven beers on, in an open seating loud beer hall type setting. big back deck and yard, and one of those places where you sit with strangers, which is cool if you are traveling. service was decent considering how busy it was, and again, the food was very good. not really a beer destination though, I found them all to be generic and weak in some ways, undercarbonated, and similar in a bad way. the fermenters were neat though, insulated with brick, never seen that before. overall a good stop for a meal on the maine brewery trip, but the beers were less than stellar, and that's the most important thing.

Stopped here for lunch the other day. Beer selection was OK, as they have the standard Gritty’s fare. The beers are good, with a fairly varied selection. the food was fairly standard pub offerings. It was tasty and was served quickly. The service was also good. Well worth a stop when in the area.

Stopped for a quick lunch on my way up to Maine beer company to see what the brewery had to offer...never heard of gritty mcduffs before got a decent chicken sandwich and an ipa...sandwich was decently common, as was beer. They had a nice outside deck to appreciate the Maine weather

A stop before the Freeport Outlet shops, this brewpub offers a decent place for a lunch and beverage before hitting the stores. Seating at long tables. This place feels like someone converted their garage into a bar (on that budget).
Beer is fresh and there is enough variety on tap to satisfy picky palates. Food is decent pub fare, with some tasty twists. But if you want fish or a burger, you are all set. Waitstaff was friendly and attentive, and all elements were in the appropriate price range.
Overall, if this particular place was located in a downtown area in a bigger icty, it might just die there. it certainly, as far as atomosphere is concerned, is nothing like the Portland location. But the beverages and food measure up. And it is by far the best place to check out if hitting the shopping outlets.

A great little brewpub in Freeport. My advice is to let the women go shopping at all the Outlets a mile up the road and wait for them here. A warm, inviting brewpub witha nice atomsphere, great pub food at very reasobnable prices. The wait staff are very knowledgable about beers and the brewer is frequently available to sit down and have a beer with you and discuss his brewing philosophy. Always nice to see the brewing equipment prominently displayed too.
Beware though, in the summers it can get very crowded, and definitely avoid it the day of the Daytonna 500.

Wifeness and I stopped in here after a day of outlet shopping, as I am sure many folks do. Really cool vibe in here. "Seat yourself" meant we grabbed tables in the bar area. Long tables with benches that are meant to be shared with other parties. Beer decor on the walls along with various New England themed decorations. Windows at the end of the bar allow for viewing of the beer being made. Gritty's had 6 or 7 of their beers on tap, including their 21 IPA on cask, which I ordered. Wife ordered the stout. Both beers were excellent. A really good menu that includes Maine fare that you'd expect. Wife ordered a spicy haddock burrito. I ordered the twin lobster rolls. Damn was that food good. The service was attentive and friendly and made us feel welcomed there. The "pro shop", as I call it, had lots of t-shirts and three dollar bombers. You can't beat that!
Overall, Gritty's was a real nice dining experience and there is no doubt we'll be back. :)

One of my favorite pubs. They have wide open dining areas w picnic bench type seating. A very family oriented place with a wide variety of fare from classic pub style foods to great seafood and some really great chowdah's! They always have an ale featured off cask which is always a cellar temp and wicked delicious. They have outside seating with a cool large grassy area for kids to play in. It's maybe a mile from downtown Freeport near the great shopping. Fantastic beer, food, and wait staff. Just a friendly place overall.
