Came here for dinner on a Saturday night (@ around 6:30pm). The place was pretty empty - the bar was about half full but only 1 table had people at them, so we grabbed a table.
To drink I had Dogfish Head 120 Min IPA, which surprisingly came in a big glass (like 16 ounces). That one lasted me a little while. I finished with a bottle of Maine Beer Co Peeper Ale. They had like 20 taps plus a whole bunch of bottles - everything from very local to Belgian and Germany.
For food, we started with some the "Reuben fritters" which were very interesting battered, fried slightly-larger-than-bite-size, pieces with a corned beef/cheese combo inside, served with a tasty 1000 island sauce. We also had the frickles which were fried pickles (one of my favorites!) they were good.
I had the burger with fries as a main course - it was pretty good. I would order it again.
Overall, an enjoyable experience - I would go back.

Just gave this place a try last week, after driving by it for months. Kicking myself for not trying it earlier! They have a great craft beer selection, with a CASK tap as well! You can also get flights of all the draft beers (mix & match). Good beer slection and also good food. The menu isnt too extensive, and it's mostly pub far, fried pickles, sandwiches, and build your own burgers (which are awesome btw).
This is a smaller Waltham bar, so it's very long and narrow space. Only 1 row of small tables aside from bar seats. So you may feel abit crowded, but just get friendly with your neighbors.

I love The Gaff. Great bar. This is my becoming my regular watering hole.
Great atmosphere and trendy music. You can catch some cool djays and live bands too.
Cool owner that tends bar. Extremely friendly and knowledgeable staff.
Great beer selection. A good number of taps that they stock with what ever they feel like. They keep thing rotating and have a great selection of bottles and draft. You can find a range from highbrow to lowbrow here.
Great food from the tiniest kitchen on earth. Super cheap and super good with good sized portions.

Excellent bar, not just for Waltham, but anywhere. Very respectable beer selection, good amount of taps as well as bottles. Something for everyone. Spoke to the bartender (I believe he was the owner), said they are trying on introducing atleast a new beer every week or two. (good, inventive mixed drink list as well for what its worth, if you go with someone who is looking for that.)
Food is great too. Definitly above standard pub fare, but not trying to be anything fancy. The free popcorn is a very nice touch, just enough salt to make you even more thirsty.

The best spot for beer in Waltham. I would not concider myself a regular but I have probably been here 6 times in the last 3-4 months. Each time I go in there there is something different and good. For example Nugget Nectar was on tap when I was there a few weeks back. There are usually a few (6-8) nice craft drafts on at all times. They always have Chimay Red and one cask beer that rotates. Pretty decent selection for Waltham.
Nice atomosphere and crowd. It doesn't seem to attract some of the student crowd which is good. Also the slightly higher prices seem to keep away some of the Waltham riff raff that often is around on Moody. The food is decent. basic stuff. I think I have had a hot dog and a hummus plate. They staff is good. The owners seeme interested in craft been and they seem open to suggestions too.
Reccomended if in the Waltham area. I nice sold beer bar.

Stopped by here on a Monday night; it made a nice refuge from a harsh winter wind and the harsher fluorescent lights of Waltham center. The tap selection is not spectacular but quite serviceable and shows some depth and thought. You can also get a three-glass/6oz-each flight for $7.50, which is more than reasonable. There's a decent bottle list as well, and a tightly limited food menu that consists mostly of pressed sandwiches but also has a few creative appetizers. A friendly bartender was on duty; he stayed out of the way but checked in at the right times. The popcorn, however, is stupendous. A clean, dimly lit and pleasant place to visit if you're in the area.

Saw a few decent reviews of this place and have checked it out a few times now, first by myself and once with a fellow BA.
I dig the atmosphere of this place. Long, narrow area with dark walls but well-lit. A few couches by the front and hi-tops near the bar. Music is played at a reasonable decible level - apparently they have bands some nights. I found myself very comfortable here.
Selection of 20 taps, consisting of regional and national beers. Around ~ 7 are junk, but the rest are respectable (ie Avery Winter, DFH 90 minute, Pretty Things St Boltophs, Clown Shoes). Prices are reasonable in comparison with other Boston area bars. Fresh popcorn is served at the bar - nice touch.
On both visits, the service was prompt and friendly, without the attitude you get at other places around Boston. The owner was behind the bar my first visit and seemed well-versed in craft beer.
They were also talking about having a DFH tap takeover in the near future and seem to be looking to increase their craft beer focus even more.
Restroom was spotless, though a bit tight. Didn't eat, but the menu consisting of mostly sandwiches and burgers looked promising.
I will definitely return.

Stopped in after work on a Monday night to check this place out. Nice smallish place with dark wood everywhere, but with sufficient lighting to give it a lively feel. Comfortable bar stools (Watch City should take notice), a few tables along the back bar, and a couple of black leather couches in the front fill out the motif. Music was being played at a reasonable level so you could listen to it if you wanted, yet still have a conversation.
Beer selection is the best I've seen in Waltham and even a jaded beer geek will find something to enjoy. For my tastes though, I would like to see a top tier IPA like Racer 5 or Greenflash IPA on tap at all times. Good representation of local beers and the more well known out-of-region crafts. Nice to have some higher abv choices that would be welcome for an after dinner drink on Moody Street. A couple of the beers I picked could have been a bit fresher I think, but they weren't unenjoyable, hopefully with more customers comes quicker turnover. Prices were reasonable - ranging from $5.25 per pint to $7 for 10-12 oz pour of higher abv beer. Prices and abv listed on the menu but it could have been a bit clearer about which beers are served in smaller sizes - didn't seem to make sense when I ordered a 7% local beer which came in a smaller pour than a 8% beer from CO which was served in a pint.
Service was friendly, efficient, and unpretentious - a change of pace for beer bars in the area imo. Bartender was engaging and interested in craft beer even though he didn't have much experience yet. They said that they have bands on the weekends with no cover.
With Greenflash IPA, Racer5, Victory Headwaters, Jack's Abby Hoponious on tap, this has become a regular haunt of mine. No real reason to head to Cambridge all that much anymore for my hop fix. Who would have thought Waltham would ever have as good a selection of craft beer.
I will be back - may even become a semi-regular.

Stopped in on NYE with some friends and had a great time! It's not a big bar but has a great feel to it. They have an amazing selection of beers and friendly bar staff. I had the burger and four pints of Gritty's Balck Fly Stout, my girlfriend had the potstickers and the poor mans mimosa (Miller high life with oj).The burger was very good and I was surprised to see how much they had on the menu considering the size of the kitchen. Very cool place, 21 beers on draft, 40 in bottles 1 on cask and great dj as well. I'll be back to the gaff soon!

After dinner at Watch City this past Saturday, my wife and I walked down Moody Street and we came across The Gaff, which I had heard about on BA. We decided to stop in for a pint. The outside is brick and black, with tinted windows. I will admit it does not have a very friendly look to it. But once inside, it's more of a cool looking bar. Very small place. A bar on the right, and some tabletops along the left wall. Small kitchen in the back to prepare the limited menu (mostly pressed sandwiches). Two tvs above the bar for sports. Service was friendly. Our bartender served our drinks quickly, and refilled our free popcorn a few times (a nice touch). Beer selection was top notch. Fourteen on tap, plus a cask. All quality beers - DFH, Victory, Brooklyn, etc. About 30 bottles to choose from, and most were craft, with a few macros mixed in. I had a pint of the Goose Island 312 Wheat, and my wife had the Kona Pipeline Porter. Not a large crowd early on a Saturday night, but it was a comfortable place. One of the better beer selections I've seen at any bar in Waltham.
