When I'm in bottle shop, looking for tasty treats to bring home, rogue beers rarely make it into my basket. In general, I just think there are better beers out their for the price.
Having said that, I really like visiting the Rogue Public House in NW Portland. The atmosphere is exactly what I like in a pub: dark, lots of stained wood, comfortable, casual, and without pretension.
The taplist is extensive, and always has a few beers that you can't find in bottles. I also appreciate the option to try beers by the glass instead of buying the expensive 750ml ceramic bottles of the the XS series beers (although the switch to 7oz nips recently will have me grabbing a few more bottles now too).
The staff at this bar is always top notch. Compared to some of the other brew pubs in town, they tend to be some of the most knowledgeable about what they're pouring, and they're usually happy to talk to you and answer any questions you have about what's in your glass.
The food is average. There's good stuff on the menu, but nothing inspired or particularly memorable. If I need to eat, I usually get that out of the way at Deschutes, a short walk away, before making my way to rogue to relax in a comfortable pub with a glass or a pint.
The prices for the beer are a bit higher than other bars charge when serving rogue stuff, but I understand the businesses decision not to under-cut their biggest customers - the other bars around town.
To get around paying extra, join the rogue nation, which is free, and entitles you to a discount on every beer you order.
