Poured into a snifter from a 750ml bottle.
Brewed: 2011
Bottled: 2013

Pours a deep rich dark garnet color with some ruby hues. There is a nice pink foamy lively head that forms. The head is lively and recedes quickly.

Aroma is very nice. Notes of funky sand musty wood with strong tart vinegary notes. Notes of sour lemon. Mild cherry sweetness mixed in with intense wild cherry tart notes. There is some nice chalky yeast notes in the nose. There are also some nice vinous notes to the brew.

Flavor starts off insanely tart. Dry, wild cherry tart notes mixed in with some funky and musty wood notes. As the brew warms some more slight sweet cherry notes are present. There is a chalky yeasty note to the brew along the middle of it that goes along well with the tartness.

The brew is dry and very tart. Definitely intended for sharing.

Good sour beer. Extremely dry.

On the nose wet hay, band-aids, and some funk. The mouth feel is very good, thick, something that you would expect from the style. This is helped by a low-level of carbonation, which is also style appropriate.

The real "kicker" is the fruit. the nose could not be more deceiving.... The cherries come in, right up front, with a good sour taste. It is a bit more sour than I personally like, but overall welcome. The dryness of the beer helps with the sour character as well.

Overall a fantastic beer, especially if you are one for sours.

750ml C&C bottle; small pop as cork is removed from the bottle.

poured into a tulip glass.

Apperance: dark red bodied beer with thin white cap.

Smell: this smells like a sour bomb. acetic sourness. lots of tart cherries. a hint of musty funk.

Taste: This is a sour beer with serious pucker factor! easily an 8/10 on the sourness scale. Acetic sour and tart cherries. Mild funkiness that is reminicent of of wet hay plus musty basement.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied beer with low carbonation. It has got a really dry finish to match the sourness in this beer. A little bit more carbonation would have been preferable, but this beer does fine at the level of carboantion that it has.

Overall: I think that this kriek is in the same ballpark as krieks brewed by cantillion and drie fonteinen. Not a lot of complexity in the nose or flavor profile, but the sourness in this beer makes up for that. I would not have it any other way with this beer!

750ml bottle. Brewed in 2011 and bottled in 2013. Served in a Cantillon lambic glass.

Appearance: Pours a dark blood red color with less than a finger of head that dissipates to a thin pink collar. Body is dark and hazy but still translucent.

Smell: Sour cherries, good amount of barnyard funk, damp wood, wet hay. Aroma is nicely complex but not super strong.

Taste: Nice punch of sourness right upfront followed by tons of sour cherries and some barnyard funk and oak. Lingering cherry finish and aftertaste. Sourness is medium, bordering on high.

Mouthfeel: Medium bodied slightly soft mouthfeel with medium fine carbonation. Sour, dry finish.

Overall: Really nice kriek lambic. The cherries are clearly the main attraction here, but there's a nice sourness and just enough funk to provide a nice balance as well. Definitely pick this up if you see it.

Grabbed this a few months back
The beer pours a dull maroon with no head or visible sediment. A bit of yeast, chlorine, and tart cherries dominate the nose, neither of which are particularly overwhelming. Big tart cherries hit hard in the taste, but the funk and oak set in quickly. It's relatively undercarbonated, almost syrupy (but not sweet) tart cherries followed by yeast and tannins on the palate, and a very dry, distinctly cherry finish. This beer is quite sour/dry already and I'd imaging it would get even more intensely sour with time. Although the price is steep it's definitely a worthy kriek.

750ml (2011 brew year) into a tulip.

A: Pours a deep garnet with a small pinkish head that disappears immediately.

S: Cherry juice, light acetic note, plenty of barnyard notes and somewhat lactic.

T: Taste brings dry, tart cherry skin, moderate acidity, a bit of pleasant fruity sweetness, wheat, a hint of oak. Pretty straightforward.

M: Mouthfeel is light-bodied with almost no carbonation.

O: This tastes quite nice - dry and moderately tart with a good fruit presence - but the lack of carbonation docks some points. Still, quite a good beer.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Bright red. Deep red. No head, but it's still pretty.

Smell - Juicy rich cherry. Some lemony acidity.

Taste - More of a lambic flavor than the aroma implies. Cherry flavor is still strong, but less sweet and juicy. Grainy and lemony tang. Oaky and a minimal funk.

Mouthfeel - Medium light body. Sour. Low carbonation.

Overall - Much better than the base lambic. Delicious cherry flavor.
