Lucky no skunk in this green bottle.

Appearance was average golden, nice head, not over carbonated.

Smell was average at best.

Taste was solid. Not the greatest in the world, but nice.

Mouthfeel was excellent, not overly sweet, nice hop flavor, malty..really good.

Overall I would risk the purchase (due to the green bottle) again. This is a winner.

Note: This review was a re-post from my former account, jmkratt, which was hacked and I lost all my reviews...sorry for the redundancy.

Poured from bottle to Pilsner glass.

A - Beer pours a bright pale gold color that is crystal clear with a 1 finger white head that has average retention and lacing.

S - Not a lot of aroma though the grainy character is noticeable. Cannot detect any yeast or hop notes.

T/M - The beer starts out clean and crisp and stays that way throughout. It is quite light in terms of mouthfeel. The middle of the beer the light pale malts and lager yeast are mildly present and blend rather well with the lightly grainy upfront flavor. The beer finishes crisp and clean.

D - Very drinkable.

Overall, I think this beer is pretty average for the style. Nothing stands out really but isn't bad by any means either. Quite refreshing.

A: Pours a yellow/golden color, white head maybe a quarter finger. No lacing to speak of.

S: Smells grassy and earthy. Not picking up on much else

T: Taste about like it smells. Grass and floral notes, followed by a skunky bitter after taste. It doesn't taste bad. I like the taste, but just not very flavorful.

M: Very clean, crisp, and enjoyable mouthfeel. I think this is what makes this beer seem better than it actually is.

O: Its not a bad beer but could definately be better. I heard bad things about it but I wouldn't say its horrible.

a: Pale/Light gold in color. Pours a strong head with a sustainable creamy head

s: The skunky smell overwhelms all other aromas. There is a slight spiciness smell. Can also smell a little sulfur

t: Not much of a hop character. Can taste a little of the noble hops up front, but they dissipate quickly. Bitterness and hop flavor are lacking. Seems to have a bit too much malt sweetness. Fairly dry finish. Skunky aroma seem to makes it's way to the taste (perhaps I am just overwhelmed by the smell)

m: Medium body with medium carbonation. Almost has a slight creaminess - could be related to the sweetness. Carbonation does not last long in the mouth

o: Not so much of a crisp, refreshing beer like a German Pilsner should be. The skunkiness aroma is just so overwhelming that it dominates the beer. Would recommend ditching the green glass to avoid the skunkiness.

Into a pilsener (also had in a pint glass, no difference is noted):

A: clear light golden colored body with a small white film of a head

S: the "skunkiness" that most people find non-appealing with some hop/floral aroma, but even the hops/floral-ness is barely noticeable

T: sweet through a combination of hops to malts

M: light, sessionable, sweet aftertaste and balanced sweet to bitter finish

O: its a German pilsener brewed in accordance to the Purity Laws, so, this is one that's not for all, as for me, I'm actually unsure if I'd have this again, probably preferably with food

A- Pours a clear light golden color. Fizzy head that goes away fast. No Lacing.

S- Almost literally like dead skunk on the highway. If you really try, underneath there is somewhat of a slight hop floral aroma. Not much there. Almost smells like it has gone bad.

T- Surprisingly not as bad as the smell. Traditional pilsener taste. I found it similar to Miller Lite, but without the usual terrible aftertaste. No hops in the taste. A fairly sweet taste throughout with fruity note here or there.

M- Light as all get out. Could pound them all night. Appropriate amount of carbonation.

Overall, the smell threw me. It smelled like it had gone bad. But other than the smell, it's a decent beer. By no means one to race out and buy, but good enough.

A: Pours a clear straw yellow color with a small white head and some lacing.

S: Mild grain aroma and a bit musty.

T: Flavor of grain with a mild sweetness and a gritty bitterness and fairly clean finish.

F: Light body and crisp. A bit rough around the edges.

O: Kind of a bland generic beer. Not one of the better Euro Lagers.

Appearance - Pours a light golden color with a half-inch thick head that disappears quickly.

Smell - Grassy, somewhat skunky, with some bread characteristics. I like the smell of this.

Taste - It tastes skunky as well.. It doesn't have too strong of a flavor of anything though. Hard to point anything out. Has a slightly bitter aftertaste.

Mouthfeel - Kinda light to medium bodied, same as the carbonation.

Overall - A pretty good beer. Nice and refreshing.

St Pauli Girl the first import I ever had many years ago :) Let me start by saying that I bought mine as a twelve pack which is the only way to go with green bottle imports thats why I had no skunkiness whatsoever.

A- Typical Lager but who really pours this stuff out of the bottle? The label is way better to look at.

S-Grassy a slight hint of hops

T-Light and refreshing, a little grassy, some sweet malts finish lingers nicely.

Overall this is a great beer that I would purchase again.

I have to say the label is the best thing about this; a buxom Bavarian wench carrying steins of beer, whats not to love?

The beer itself was decent, slight skunk scent, (damn green bottles), medium yellow body, great head that lasts a while. Clean, crisp (grassy?).
I would drink it again.

12oz Bottle

Appearance – Clear yellow colour with a large size fizzy white coloured head. There is no carbonation showing (?!) and there is some fairly good lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains, bread, malts, floral hops, corn, skunk

Taste & Mouth - The beer has an average amount of carbonation and it comes across as sort of watery taste wise. The flavours include corn, wheat, malts, and some light hops. There is also a bit of a metallic flavour going on. It finishes with a grainy/corn aftertaste with some slight bitterness.

Overall – Not something I would ever seek out again. It might work well as a camping beer, but even then, there are better/cheaper options.

This brew poured out as a nice looking golden yellow color, the head was white and fluffy. The smell of the beer had the typical German Lager aroma of some fresh grass and some aging in there too. The taste of the beer is a little grassy also and finished with a crisp clean flavor though. The mouthfeel of this one is light, crisp and clean also. Overall this brew isn't bad but I prefer the Dark Lager over this one personally.

Poured out of 12 oz bottle into pint glass.

A) A clear and bright yellow color. There was an inch of white head, not much retention, no lacing.

S) Sad to report, but this is mostly skunk.

T) This was not as bad as the nose. There was some skunk unfortunately, but it was at least somewhat counter acted by grains, hints of hops and a slightly grassy dry finish.

M) Pretty light bodied, with a decent amount of carbonation. There is some fizz to this one.

O) Perhaps this is the curse of the green bottle. I can't recall a time I've had a Pauli Girl that wasn't a bit skunky. This beer isn't terrible. Ice cold out of the cooler, you could do worse.

Have had this a bunch of times earlier. Poured into my Prima Pils glass for review:

Pours a clear gold color with nice carbonation and good white head. Smells a little almond-like, maybe a little grainy, with some definite bready characteristics. Tastes mostly clean with a sweet tasting finish. Mouthfeel is light with a slightly bitter finish. No real hop character to speak of. Overall, a decent beer. A good German brew at an affordable price. And you can't beat the iconic label art.

Appearance - beautiful pale yellow and clear with 2 finger head. Great look for a Pils.

Smell - some nobles are faint but mostly a faint skunky smell

Taste - A pleasant combination of barnyard flavors (straw, earthiness) with nicely balanced noble hop flavoring and slight crisp in the finsih

Mouthfeel - full bodied for a Pilsner. Nice.

Overall - This a very decent German Pilsner in my book. Not sure why this one isn't more highly rated by others, as its got many good German Pilsner characteristics and also has some flavor punch to it (not bland by anymeans).

Like KFC, St. Pauli Girl seems like a good idea every six months or so and I grab a twelver. Halfway through it I regret the decision, even though I like looking at the gal on the label.

I don't know anything about the pour for this one as I suck them down straight from the bottle. The beer always smells a little skunky and tastes very sour.

However, it does get me hammered quite efficiently. Though I regret the decision to buy it at the halfway mark, it is at that point that I stop caring.

The beer pours a light clear yellow color with a white head. The aroma is exactly what I expected from an imported beer in a green bottle: skunked grain and nothing else. I am holding it against the brewer in my rating since it was their choice to use a green bottle. The flavor has a little bit of skunk, but not as much as in the aroma. I also get some grain and grass notes from the hops. Thin mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

A: The beer is clear golden yellow in color and has a moderate amount of carbonation. It poured with a finger high white head that died down rather quickly but consistently left a thin layer of bubbles covering the surface.
S: There are faint aromas of bready and grainy malts in the nose.
T: The overall taste is very similar to the smell but the flavors are slightly stronger. There are some hints of bitterness towards the finish.
M: It feels light-bodied on the palate with a hint of crispness and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: There’s nothing interesting about this beer that would want me want to try it again; the taste is very bland for the style.

Appearance: Very clear and golden color. Very small thin head that has very little retention and lacing. Has a fairly good amount of carbonation as well

Smell: Very light grainy and sulfuric smell. Actually a very good smell compared to other beers of this category

Taste: Very crisp tasting. Has a sweet taste up front from the malts and herbal and floral hop notes. Finishes with a dry grainy taste

Mouthfeel: Very light bodied and soft on the palate with a dry finish

Overall: This is a fairly good beer. Had great smell and appearance, along with a surprisingly good taste. The dry finish is the only downside to this import

Poured from an extremely fresh 24oz bottle...

Appearance: Standard lager yellow with quite a large 3 finger head risen from a beautifully carbonated body.

Smell: Not the most notable quality. A common yeast scent from among mass produced German lagers accented by an odd, almost metal, taste is presented.

Taste: A light, easy to drink, standard pilsner beer with minute hop, malt, grain, and honey elements.

Mouthfeel: A light to medium body with a refreshingly crisp carbonation.

Overall: This is a staple beer for me. If I am buying beer at a gas station.. or any location where I just need something good at an off hour of the night.. or just simply can't find any good craft beer possibilities close by, I always look for this beer. It's a common enough beer to find. Having traveled to Germany many times I can say it carries a great similarity to a lot of what I found at the numerous family biergartens throughout. With this said, it is just a filler; not a duplication or replacement for. It is simply a good solid mass market German pilsner.

Poured into a shaker pint. Pours a super light clear golden color. White head dissapated to a super thin ring. No lacing.

Aroma like so many others in green bottles is a bit skunky. Bit of German pils aroma. Not much else.

Taste is similar. Not really skunky taste. Mostly pils taste with a slight bit of honey.

Mouthfeel is dry and refreshing. Higher side of carbonation.

Overall an ok pils. Would rather have many others of the style. Not bad but probably won't buy again.

Pours a crystal clear straw color with a pure white head. Smells slightly slinky with some maltiness and not much smell to speak of.
The taste is light breadiness with sweetness and no real hop flavor. It's crisp but there's not much more to write about here.
The mouthfeel is thin with decent carbonation.
Overall it's a subpar, made for America interpretation of what a good German beer should be.
You can pass on this one and not regret it.

Poured a 1.5" white soap suds head. Clear and quite light straw yellow in color. Smell from the moment opened and from arms length was substantially skunked. Taste was a pretty standard BMC style, rather watery, and had a mild but bitter finish. Really the only redeeming quality of this sample was the buxom blond St Pauli Girl on the label.

As I had this straight from the bottle at a backyard party, I didn't really see how it poured, although there certainly was no foamy head I could detect. And the color was generally a pale, clear, light yellow.

No overt or unpleasant smell.

My first impression was a bitter bite...more like Heinekin or Sessions, than a Budweiser. Perhaps strong piney flowery hops, but not really citrus.

Very thin-bodied, clear and sharp, on the tongue.

Overall, not a beer to "savor" but just a thirst quencher with a bite. Won't be back for another.

First had: a party somewhere.

First thing that comes to mind is people going: "Wooo!" Pours nicely into a red Solo cup, a clear, watery, straw-yellow, with fizzy bubbles and a small head that recedes to practically nothing. Weak scents of light grains and green-bottle skunk. Pretty much the same in the taste, grains, rotten hay, skunk, with faint hints of something that could be hops. Light mouthfeel, and not very drinkable at all unless you're drunk already.
