Pours a pale straw, quick rush of white head, diminishing into nothing quickly. Very pale scent with hints of fresh grain and earthy hops. Very pale taste, sollows scent with light fresh dried grains and earthy hops. no off charachteristics, just light, weak and watery with highly active carbonation.

pours a straw yellow appearance with a thick 3-finger head. good amount of carbonation releases throughout pint glass. minimal lacing. best part of beer

smells of lemon, grass & herbs. reminds me of walking around my grandparents farm on a Summer evening. no malt presence whatsoever to help with the hop profile.

mild sweetness with lemon citrus hops. has that faint skunk taste that is evident in some Euro lagers. drying finish

light body with full carbonation

very forgettable beer. do not like that skunky aftertaste and dry finish. I used to think that I just don't like Pilseners but I am a huge fan of the Prima Pils. Oh well, won't be going back to "the girl" anytime soon.

from a six-pack of 12 oz bottles with a "best before" date of 08.2011 but no mention of the Reinheitsgebot

A: pours a very pale yellow with a thin head that's gone if you blink, but nice label on the bottle

S: not much here either, just a faint whiff of malted grain and grassy hops

T: okay, the taste is a little better, but still quite understated, while leaving a hint of bitterness - best paired with strong tasting food for contrast

M: a little smoother than seltzer water, and almost as carbonated

D: even though I could probable drink a few, I think one is plenty

Notes: I remember when St Pauli Girl used to be a fairly respectable beer. Either my tastes have changed or this beer is now trying to compete with American adjunct beers.

Served in a glass.

A: Very dense, white and bubbly head. Head dissipates slowly leaving a little lacing. Could swear it is a light beer based on the color which is a very light and pale straw/yellow.

S: Hopsy and citrus. Perhaps a little skunky.

T: High on the hopsy-bitterness. Mixture of hops and citrus zest is about all I can taste.

M: Light, airy and slightly coarse. Feels a bit like a light beer.

D: Feels like a light beer so if one prefers heavier/more filling beers then more than one (12oz) bottle may be wanted. (I've got a 24oz bottle so one is enough for me).

This is the second time I've tried this beer but the first time reviewing it for BA. I didn't care for it the first time I tried it but this time and I think I may have gotten a fresher bottle because it is fairly decent for a pilsener. I wouldn't particularly recommend it but it isn't bad. May be worth a try.

St. Pauli Girl Lager has a medium, white, and quickly-dissipating head and a clear, golden appearance, with moderate carbonation.
The aroma is skunky at the first open of the green bottle, then mostly of barley malt. Taste is of barley, with an underlying hop note. Mouth-feel is fairly full bodied, and St. Pauli Girl Lager finishes crisp, semi-dry, and refreshing enough. Overall, I think this is an okay beer.

Oh St. Pauli Girl...had a friend come back to the states from germany swearing by this as his party beer(as it is a pilsner I figured u could knock back enough to get cheerful) so I crack the bottle and and St Pauli girl mustve opened her legs lol pretty skunky/sulfury but wasn't a bad brew I could drink it had a decent taste not what I expected from such a strong smelling beer. It was decently crisp and left ur mouth dry so a decent not great beer....id drink it again

Appearance - Very clear straw/gold color with a super white head that wasn't too impressive. Head retention was at a bare minimum. A tiny bit of lacing was present. Looked like a "macro" lager or pilsner.

Smell - The nose was very grainy. The hops smelled kind of musty. Corn aromas were present also. Rice too. Just a wee bit skunky.

Taste - The grain and corn stand out in the taste. Some bitterness is present. Enough to let you know that some type of hops are present somewhere. Not horrible.

Mouthfeel - Light mouthfeel. Mostly watery. Crisp and smooth. Very little was left on the palate.

Drinkability - This beer reminds me of the big
American Lagers and Pilsners, but with more of a grainy nose and taste. Would pair well with a real hot day. Could be rather thirst quenching. Probably wouldn't seek this out, but I could see how this beer could be good for someone making the jump to craftbeer.

A - Pours a clear, pale/golden color. Large head that is gone quickly. Light to no lacing.
S - Light version of the taste: skunk, sulfur, hops, grain.
T - skunk, sulfur, dry, bitter, grainy. Sharp and dry. Lousy aftertaste.
M - the dryness and sharpness do not allow for the crappy aftertaste to linger too long. Cold and highly carbonated save this beer from a lower score.
D - all in all average to below. Better than some things out there but there is an awfully lot of better beers than this. And the dark version of St. Pauli is much better than this.

Pours a fairly pale color, maybe just a shade darker than, say, Budweiser. Small head that dissipates somewhat slowly, leaving thin film. Carbonation was noticeable at first but dies quickly.

Immediate smell upon pour of flowers. Second time: yep, definitely flowery smell along with a fresh smell I typically see in similar European beers.

Taste is of not as much as I hoped. A bit of hops and otherwise follows the nose but less than I expected. Mouthfeel is slightly chewy.

Appearance: A nice amount of foam that flattens off pretty quickly. Pale straw golden with some good carbonation. Ok lacing as well here.

Smell: Stale Beck's. Very strong pilsener scent that's gone awry. I would still say this is average since it definitely smells like beer so you won't forget what it is.

Taste/Mouthfeel: More stale Beck's, but still not awful. Kind of watered down as well. Maybe this was just a bad bottle? Leaves a strong taste in your mouth for a while.

Drinkability: Quite drinkable overall. A bit too harsh and unbalanced though.

Overall: Definitely comes off as a cheaper German import. Stronger/more unbalanced/harsher than Beck's.

Reviewed from notes.

Pours a light straw color with a white head that has some decent retention though not much lacing. The nose brings some light grain and corn. The taste is corn, straw, grain, and some very faint hops. Light feel with pretty strong carbonation. Not really tasty and really nothing going for it.

Poured this fine brew into my pub glass and it gave me a one finger head of thick white foam. The color is medium yellow, rating a 5 on the SRM beer color chart. I like the smell, blending of orange and other citrus smells with malt. The flavor is a medium well blended taste of baked wheat, rye, barley, corn and a hint of hops. Full bodied feeling in my mouth, good amount of carbonation with a feeling of pudding. I like this beer, even though it is a little pricey.

A - Pale golden hue with a crappy look overall.

S - It smells rank from a distance. It smells rank from up close.

T - Not as disgusting as it's big brother, Beck's. Still pretty close.

M - Uggghhh.

D - Named in honor of a hooker or hookers, for export to the US. Way to go! Shows what they think of us in America.

A straw gold colour with a huge head of foam.

The smell is of corn, some sweet malt, and a bit of bitterness. Standard.

Taste goes the same way, corn, sweet malt, light bitterness. Standard.

An ok brew with very few differences within the style to make it noteworthy.

Poured into a pint glass from a "green bottle" when will brewers get that green bottles = skunk beer..smh

pours a golden straw color with a thick foamy head that disapates quicker than normal

smell..a faint hoppy smell can be detected but a strange muskey scent overpowers the nose of this beer..

Taste..mildly sweet grassy sort of taste upfront
slightly corny..hoppy taste tward the end but finishes with a verry unappealing sulfury Boiled egg affter taste

this beer is highly carbonated wich is a good thing but not in st pauli`s case because it brings back that musky sulfury taste to the back of your throat..

in short its just not a good beer..i wouldent suggest this beer because of the low abv 4.9 and the awful taste.there are so many great lagers out on the market to choose from that it would be a huge diservice to pick this lager as a beer of choice

but if you like beers that taste like slighty gamey boiled eggs i would say try it but if not with all do respect run for the hills!!!

Appearance: Pours to a clear, yellow-ish gold with a nice sized, fluffy white head.

Smell: Smells of grain and citrus hops, some yeast and mild alcohol.

Taste: Really mild, some grain and sweet malt. No discernable hops, and a lingering sulfur. Not good.

Mouthfeel: Very light, minimal carbonation.

Drinkability: Poor. It looks and smells ok but the flavor is simply bad.

Poured into a stange from a green bottle, morons. Beer is yellow and clear with a big white head of medium bubbles that leaves some lacing on the glass. Carbonation is moderate.

Aroma is mildly sulfur, and pretty sweet.

Beer is grainy and oddly bitter with a sulfurish aftertaste, its mildly sweet up front but carbonation in the mouth is minimal. This is a train wreck of a beer, if possible the NA version of this beer is actually better.

You never forget your first girl. Well, since my first was probably 30 years ago -- she's long forgotten. In the current nostalgic phase of trying some beers I enjoyed in the past, here goes.

German Pils? This has always been categorized as a Dortmunder that I can recall.

Best by 04/2011

A -- Nice, clear gold with a slow-settling white cap.

S -- Pretty thin all around: nothing bad, but nothing spectacular, mild spicy, grassy hops and vague grain.

T -- Good balance of mellow bready malts and spicy hops up front, breadiness lingers into a mildly bitter finish with some malt sweetness in the aftertaste. All around, pretty easy going and appetizing.

*Edit: BJCP mentions a mineral character for Dortmunders that I wouldn't have been able to I.D., but I get it from this brew -- sort of like a touch of mineral water in the finish at the back of your mouth.

M -- Soft mouthfeel with a light-medium body and dry, crisp finish.

D -- Very nice. 4.9%, good malt & hop balance without being macro bland -- very nice considering the rep its garnered.

and so it begins another adventure down the road of the bottom of the barrel. stopped in the store on the way home and grabbed a few more tonight. served cold and poured into a pint glass, this one was consumed on 08/16/2010.

one of the classics, i grew up with this one and what more can i say about it. had to throw one in the cart tonight. the highly carbonated light amber pour produces a huge head of white that quickly drops off. aroma is full of grain, lots of bready notes, hints of light, very light euro hops and tons of malt. each sip is clean, crisp, clear and refreshing. nothing great about this beer, but its simplicity and ability to stay true to form should be commended. light aftertaste has a touch of corn and a light crispness that make you go back for another round.

overall not the best, never will be but for what it is, it works, word order it in a pinch over 95 percent of this list.

Smell here is of some skunkiness....some corn maybe. Nothing remarkable.

Beer is pretty watery. Initial taste is some grassiness....although certainly not very powerful. There's a slight hop bitterness at the backend but definitely not much compared to most pilsners. Finishes with a little bit of grainy sweetness.

Let's be honest, this isn't the best Germany has to offer. It's highly drinkable though for a person who just wants to mindlessly put a few back.

Pours a straight yellow, clear with a one finger head that didn't last too long or leave much lacing.

Smells of lightly skunked spiced malted grains and a touch of hops. Not real great in the smell category.

Tastes of grains, summer fields and lightly spiced hops. Not outstanding at all, but acceptable.

Mouthfeel is dry and carbonated, not especially great but acceptable for the style.

Despite its lack of outstanding characteristics, this beer has always been highly drinkable, and still is.

Poured a transparent golden color with about a 1/2" head that quickly dissipated. Not a ton of smell, but it was a faint hoppy lager smell. Taste was malty with a little bit of hops. It was nicely carbonated and was thin/light. Overall, it would be okay on a hot summer day, but the taste isn't really hitting the spot for me. It would be sessionable and maybe a good way to ween your friends off budwiser and miller-coors (although it is still owned by AB) and get them onto the path of righteous craft brews.

Light straw color, with a thin white head that fades gradually, becoming patchy. Very little lacing.
Smell is spiced malts with a touch of hops. Euro yeast.
Taste is lightly spiced malts, with some light hops and Euro yeast. Faint notes of ginger.
Mouthfeel is crisp, with a watery finish. Light body.
Drinkability is good. Not an impressive beer by any means, but easy enough to drink.

Crystal clear bright gold with a collar of fine white foam and a smattering of soapy bubbles coating the surface of the beer. Sticky lace clung to the glass as the initial head fell after the pour. There was a sharp sulfury hop aroma immediately after popping the cap, but this dissipated quickly and left a faint maltiness and floral/spicy hoppiness behind. Didn't like the flavour so much. It started with a dirty malt character, musty, with acrid spicy hops mid-palate. The finish felt watery and all that was left was a sulfury mess. Dry and light bodied, average carbonation for the style. I thought this had promise at first, but as I had more of it I liked it less.
