Using Belgian malts and American hops and yeast, LA-31 Bière Pâle is a distinct new style of beer. Traditionally brewed, we classify it as a Bière Pâle, or Louisiana Pale Ale. It is bronze colored with a biscuity malt center, herbal hop flavors and a gentle, mellow bitterness. This beer is crafted to enhance the unique cuisine and lifestyle of South Louisiana.

been looking forward to trying this one for a while. always nice to see more local craft beer offerings on the shelves. i chilled the bottle to about 50 degrees or so then poured into a pint at room temperature. looks on the golden side of copper...plenty of clarity and a nice white collar. getting nice webby lacing, with little retention. really like how it looks. smells are malty and honey sweet, not a lot of hops but they are there. up front im tasting a malty and bready brew that gives way nicely to a hoppier finish. kind of a grapefruity bitterness at the end, which is fairly dry. i felt the flavors gained more character the warmer the beer became...one thing i really like here is the feel of the body, its a little bit heavier than most apa's, and the carbonation is very delicate; it really does go down wonderfully smooth. drinkability for this one is just about as good as can be. overall this is a very nice pale and much better than i expected or hoped. its not as hoppy as many of the other apas around. does however have a very nice balance of flavors, not overly malty or hoppy, and the nice bittersweet dry finish was very pleasant. looking forward to more from bayou teche for sure.

12 oz bottle, rated "79 Okay" on BA, let's see if I like it or not...
$1.99 single
No date (jackasses)
Crooked Stave glass

Lager color with chill haze and a creamy cap of 2 fingers leaving tons of lace obliterating the glass. (these guys are good at that)

Aroma from the bottle is a little barley husk and a hint of hop greenery, maybe a bit of rainstorm. The aroma from the glass is spoiled hops and lemon peels with slight orange peels.

Flavor brings hop spoilage out front, followed by a hit of perfume, then some dried wood, a little spice, and some grapefruit peel and orange peel. Hits the refreshing mark well. It's not the worst pale ale ever, but it's sure not interesting. Finishes like a Budweiser.

Feel is crisp, clean, heavily carbonated, medium bodied, almost drinks like a dry pilsner.

Overall, not a stunner in the least. I could see this going good with crawfish though. Personally I won't return to it, especially with their lack of bottle dating. I think I'm gonna leave a note on their brewery door.

BOTTLE:

Hints of estery yeast are present, but don't fit in with the mediocre floral hop profile showcased here. 2-row/pale malt, some grassiness...meh. It's a shrug of a mundane beer with uneven malt/hop imbalance and a dull hop profile.

I can't imagine anyone who's tried this would pick up a sixer of it over Sierra Nevada Pale Ale (which is both cheaper and better), let alone premium regional or local pale ales.

I live in Louisiana and this is great beer for a Louisiana brewery. Taste like a Juicey ipa to me but It may not be very bubbly/sudzey which I love

A very pale ale with a solid malt backbone with evergreen and citrusy undertones and a boozy finish. Big head that diminishes quickly.
Very balanced and quite delicious.

Poured into a becher pint glass, the appearance was a semi-murky pale amber color with a finger's worth of white foamy head that slid off at a mild pace. Some stringy lace ran here and there.
The aroma had some biscuit clean malts, some sweetness and muted dried citrusy hops.
The flavor was moderately sweet with a drying hoppiness underneath. Bitterness seemed fairly displaced and it had a biscuit-like aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was between light and medium bodied with a fair sessionability about it. Carbonation felt fine. ABV felt appropriate. Finish leaned into the malts.
Overall, almost seemed like a cross between an English and an American pale ale. Maybe again.

Bottle: Poured a dirty amber color ale with a large excessive foamy head with average retention and not much lacing. Aroma of dry caramel malt with fruity ester is OK. Taste is a messy mix of dry caramel malt with some fruity ester and light herbal hops with quite a bit of residual sugar. Body is full with excessive carbonation. I’m not even sure what to make of this beer but not something I will need to re-visit anytime soon.
