From BeerAdvocate Magazine #79 (Aug 2013):

Coffee, chili peppers & cacao nibs in a beer, and a Dubbel at that. Surprisingly, with all that’s going on in this brew, the Dubbel is pretty well showcased, as the other flavors never push to be dominant, but complement instead.

STYLE: Dubbel
ABV: 6.0%
AVAILABILITY: Rotating

LOOK: Nearly pitch black, cracking tan head

SMELL: Mild coffee, chili peppers, toasted wood, bready, earthy, faint boozy alcohol, brown bread

TASTE: Smooth, slick, medium body, full-malt jacket, peppery, mild twang, fresh coffee, chili warmth, modest hopping, toasted cacao nibs, chicory, walnuts, wood, semidry finish

Did not really get dubbel here, but it is really enjoyable. Nice coffee and cream flavors. What really sets this beer apart is the nice peppery taste on the swallow. The pepper and heat are definitely present. Really enjoyable. I hope they brew this again.

Collaboration with Louisiana coffee company Mellow Joy. Belgian style Dubbel brewed with coffee. Appropriately on tap @ Mellow Mushroom. (Thanks to injuredreserve for the tip!)

Pours a transparent ruby-rust color. Head was slight, and off-white. Aroma was Belgian spices, medium dark fruits, caramel sweetness, and a noticeable, but not too powerful dark roasted coffee note. Belgian yeast notes in the taste, with some spicy sweetness, and again, a subtle but noticeable coffee roast and finishing bitterness. There's a slick, creamy mouthfeel and upper light body. Drinkability is pretty good.

Dubbels aren't my favorite, but the coffee addition adds a unique spin to a classic style and is quite enjoyable in the end.

A: into a goblet, deep opaque brown beer with a slim head of tan foam that slipped away into a filmy collar with a little island of bubbles in the middle

S: oaky whiskey and coffee dominate, roasted hazelnut and dried herbs

T: darkly roasted coffee is immediate, with peppery heat following up; hints of whiskey barrel wood mingle effortlessly into the mix; earthy, dusky, mildly bittersweet, almost smoky; suggestions of dried fruit and cocoa powder in the background.

M: thin and light, smooth, tingle from arbol peppers; it slides across the palate

O: not a traditional dubbel, so that may throw some folks off - this Lagniappe version, by definition/translation, has a little extra in it by way of French roasted coffee, arbol peppers, and cacao nibs - as if that weren't enough, it is racked into Jack Daniels barrels for part of the maturation process. Surely a must try for the adventurous; understandably a hit-or-miss proposition based on your palate. I found it quite enjoyable and engagingly complex.

22 ounce bomber. Light tan head. Low retention. Some lacing, not sticky. Clear amber body. Aroma is interesting because of the coffee notes coming from a lighter colored beer, not often seen. Some caramel malt but the coffee dominates. Taste is slightly nutty, again with coffee and slight caramel. Easy to drink, unique and tasty.

Poured from tap into pint at Bulldog Midcity. Ruby orange brown color with thin head. Smells of bitter roasted malts - but very subtle. Taste is very very nutty, bitter coffee/malt. Not very pleasant but not bad either. Its really nutty...kind of weird, but the coffee is well hidden behind the nutty flavor. Did I mention nutty?
Its ok; definitely not a traditional dubble, but its an ok brew. Meh.

Besides the obvious coffee that is on the label, not much going on to tell a buyer what kind of style beer is within the bottle. Basically a beer with Primo's Peppers and Mello Joy coffee.

A - Pours a dark amber brown body with laces of light brown amber around the edges. Has a one finger khaki head.

S - Sweet caramel with milk chocolate and light coffee.

T - Light dark chocolate (may'be 70% cocoa?) developing into weak (watered down?) coffee notes and finishing with some pepper heat. The peppers aren't overwhelmingly hot and add a nice element to the beer.

M - Light body with medium carbonation. Prickly on the mouth, not smooth.

O - A dubbel can be a boring style to me. This puts an interesting twist on it.

Sampled at a beer tasting at Weidmanns in Meridian. Pours dark amber brown with off-white head.

Smell is sweet with chocolate and coffee.

Taste follows well with lots of dark chocolate sweetness and coffee notes. Slight fruit notes. Light bitterness.

Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with average carbonation.

Overall this was good.

Not so much Dubbel, but more iced coffee with jalapeno finish. Nice.
