On tap at the Noble Ale Works 3rd Anniversary Party held at Noble Ale Works in Anaheim, CA.
Described as an American Strong Ale (Schmutz) aged since 9/12/12 in two different rye whiskey barrels with Brett. This is Barrel 1.
Pours a murky super dark brown with no head. No lacing on the drink down. Smell is of malt, toast, brown sugar, rye whiskey, and wood aromas. Taste is much the same with malt and rye whiskey flavors on the finish. There is a mild amount of wood bitterness and an alcohol kick on the palate with each sip. This beer has a lower level of carbonation with a slightly crisp and sticky mouthfeel. Overall, this is a very good beer with a great rye whiskey barrel aged presence, but I am not getting any signs of Brett from this one.
