Oh, hi there!

Best before 4/26 so I barely made it on this bad boy.

Just to get down to the nitty gritty, this is a real pleasant beer. You won't jump through flaming hula hoops and moats filled with alligators to get to it like a romp with Miranda Kerr, but it's solid enough. It's musty, but we'll call it a nostalgic musty like your granddaddy's closet. There also is a slight tinge of caramel which is tasty, unlike a GMO riddled KitKat.

Good. Pleasant. And ok for the mood.

Amarillo Showers
American IPA
8.8% ABV
95 IBU

APPEARANCE: Poured a deep golden amber with a nice fat white head. Very good retention and nice lacing.

AROMA: Great hoppy aroma with nice sweetness from grapefruit. Getting cantaloupe, pineapple hints of pine.

TASTE: Follows the nose nicely, I do get peach which I didn't pull out in the aroma. Nice bright citrus with that wonderful west coast pine resin. Bit of caramel and toffee with some malty sweetness rounding it out.

MOUTHFEEL: Medium body and carbonation. Prickly mouthfeel with a dry finish.

OVERALL: Nice enjoyable easy drinking high ABV ipa.

RATING: 3.5/5 Zombie Heads!

22oz bottle from JayORear (thanks Jay!). Drink before 4/26/14 so I'm guessing this was bottled 2/26/14. Served in a Terrapin goblet.

Pours a hazy straw yellow with a two finger cap of frothy near white head. A healthy halo of froth remains and leaves a good bit of lace.

Aromas are soft but pleasant. Mandarin, grapefruit, peach and perhaps just a hint of caramel. Despite how seemingly mild the nose is, I keep going back and enjoying it.

Flavors are bright and citrusy. Orange, cantaloupe, pineapple, subtle peach, pine, hints of caramel, a little bit of cracker and an ocassional whisper of alcohol. The ease that this goes down belies it's near 9% abv. Very smooth with lucious layers of fruity hops.

An almost oily slick, medium full feel with moderate carbonation. Orange, peach fuzz and vaguely floral finish.

This is the second in this series that I've been fortuate enough to try and it's another winner from Noble. The malt bill is near perfect- heavy enough to give some sweetness and body but subtle enough to allow the hops to be the star. This is case study worth investigating.

Pours hazy peach colored into a tulip glass. Small white half finger head forms following a standard pour, decent retention and wispy lines of lacing.

Moderate caramel sweetness from the malt is well built and lacks any grainy tones. Amarillo hops are never short on power and deliver a strong dose of orange citrus, pine sap and subtle notes of cantaloupe and stone fruit.

Caramel malt sweetness and just a bit of raw husky grain in the finish are all the malt contributes. Noble has an excellent malt bill going for them in the showers series. Hops are very green, bright pine and grasses with some pomelo and yellow grapefruit flesh to keeping with the bright flavors trend. Bitterness is fairly light, leaves a drying impression with moderate alcohol feel. Grainy and piney aftertaste.

Moderate carbonation and body. Alcohol sits at a 8.8% mark but feels like half of that number. Wet and flat over the palate but manages to dry well.

Amarillo is one of those hops that are mainstays for IPAs and provides extra power to aroma and flavor as this beer highlights. This hop may not be given the hype that Mosaic, Citra, Nelson and Galaxy command but in tandem with them it does alot to mask their shortcomings. Another winner in the Noble Showers series and continues to keep their status as a must try in my books.
