Thanks to my brother for sending me this bottle.

The beer gushes wildly once opened and eventually settles down to pour a light yellow color with a large white head. The aroma is grain and grass with not too much else going on. The flavor is much of the same. I get a ton of grain notes with a little bit of grass mixed in. I don't really get any hop bitterness or too much hop flavor other than a little bit of the grass. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not very good at all.

Covington Pontchartrain Pilsner
12 oz. brown glass bottle

Unfortunately Covington's Pilsner is a fairly average craft brew that could probably be confused for a blonde ale. It looks alright, but not great, and it just doesn't have a pilsner aroma. I find neither pilsner malt nor noble hops. In the aroma it's slightly floral and slightly grassy/lemony but the malt doesn't shine. In fact, as the flavor reveals more fully, the malt is fairly dull, and a bit too sweet. Had it been labeled differently I'd certainly give it a higher recommendation, but as a pilsner (Czech, German, or other) it lacks finesse and balance. Otherwise, basic and drinkable (especially cold) but unremarkable.

Tastes like there's a touch of diacetyl, with the sweet, creamy bread malt with a little toasted biscuit. There's an appropriate spicy hop balance, but I can't quite get past the candy note in the malt. It's be a great pilsner if it were a good bit cleaner. The drinkability and character is otherwise great.

Poured to a thin white head, minimal lace and a slightly hazy yellow color. Aroma is lemony, grassy and grainy with a hint of butter. Flavor is a very light blend of grass, lemon, pale malt, biscuit and seltzer. Mouthfeel is very watery and dry, ample CO2. Overall, not a bad beer but certainly not a German Pils.

Clear golden in color, with a hint of orange. A finger of bright white head forms, and laces lightly.

Aroma is mild, with malt sweetness hints but not much more. Maybe a touch of grass.

Hints of malt sweetness, grassy, citrus touches of hops and some bready qualities.

Smooth, crisp, good carbonation, light in body, slick.

Great drink; really refreshing.

Well, Ponchartrain Pilsner, has an extremely thin, white head, and a relatively clear, straw appearance. Carbonation is moderate to light. Aroma is faint to nonexistant. The taste is VERY bready, which is great, because I love bread. Mouth-feel is light and watery. I would say that this beer is what Michelob would probably taste like if it was not fully processed. Well, that's what it reminds me of, minus the bread aspect. This is good stuff, and I'd like to drink it with Mexican food, or by itself.

12 oz bottle contract brewed by Heiner Brau. Pours a mostly clear yellow color with a fast-dwindling white head. Leaves a nice collar and bubbly surface.

Grainy malt is certainly there and smells pretty fresh. But it is really missing a nice hop character. Light fruitiness from the yeast is also noticeable.

Flavor has a pretty distinctive crackery malt that I have noticed in all of Henryk's beers. Lacks a crisp hop finish though and tastes more like a helles than a pilsner. Pretty decently crafted lager, and the freshness is certainly appreciated.

Covington Brewhouse Pontchartrain Pilsner

Appearance: Straw yellow with a medium head a some lacing.

Smell: Fruity with a slight grain.

Taste: Nice balance of malts and grains with a subtle sweetness (honey?).

Mouthfeel: Light and refreshing.

Overall:
While this beer is not very strong flavored, it is not weak or watery. If you are a fan of pilsners, I would try this one. It is a very mellow brew that is well crafted.

Got this in a trade with zbellino (see review immediately below) in exchange for some of the best beer Cleveland has to offer. Let's see how this truly local NOLA brew stacks up!

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass, this beer is advertised on the label as being "as refreshing as a gentle lake breeze". Well, this must be a LA lake we're talking about, because the breezes off of Lake Erie are hardly gentle!

Pours a straw yellow with a 1/2" head of pure white that settles to a thin lid. Plenty of active carbonation keeps this beer looking lively.

Has a malty, almost biscuity aroma, with undertones of warm sweet hay, with hints of mild herbal hops. Mild, yet pleasant.

Very smooth, with hints of toffee, straw and bitter greens, this is an easy drinking pilsner with a biscuity presentation. There's a dry, mildy smokey finish that compels just one more sip.

Medium to light bodied, with a slightly dry, bitter finish in feel.

For me this is a classic session beer. Pull out a deck of cards, throw a six of this in the cooler, and deal out a hand or ten of hold'em. Easy drinking, interesting without being distracting, if this were a local for me it would be an easy go-to beer.

Appearance: Beer was a golden straw color with a thin, white head. Lacing present throughout.

Smell: Nice crisp, clean aroma with a nice subtle hoppiness and sweet maltiness with hints of lemon zest.

Taste: Like the aroma it was a crisp, clean lager as it should be. Had a nice grassiness with just enough hops to balance out the sweet bready maltiness. Very easy beer to drink.

Mouthfeel: Crisp, clean with medium body.

Overall: An incredible local pilsner. Something that is very easy to drink during the oppressive Louisiana heat. I think this one will be a great seller here locally if marketed properly. It's that good.
