Notes/Commercial Description:
This full-bodied lager is our interpretation of a classic Bavarian Heller Maiboch, a style known for its well balanced, easy-drinking character. Distinguished by its rich medium-to-dark golden color, sweet, malty aroma, and delicate, flowery hop finish, Bayou Bock makes for a perfect accompaniment to a wide range of cuisine.

Poured into a pint glass. Pours golden with a two-finger length white head. Plenty of bubbles can be seen streaming up from the bottom of the glass, indicating this beer is very carbonated. The aroma is sweet with malt and fruity esters. It's bready and clean smelling. There are flavors of sweet, bready malts. There are minor fruity notes with some mildly bitter hops in the finish. There is a minor bitter aftertaste. The body medium to full with plentiful carbonation. The finish is crisp and dry. The drinkability is high. Overall, this is a very good beer. It is definitely worth a try if you're looking for beer made in Louisiana.

Received as an extra in a trade. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Pours a light golden hue with a nice one finger thick head that fades to leave a nice creamy quarter inch head. Very light lacing.

S - Sweet malts, light corn, the citrus/hops is super, super faint.

T - Light nutty qualities, corn, sweet malts. No real hops, light caramel, faint tinny/metallic notes.

M - Mouthfeel is light, decent carbonation. Feels slightly thin.

O - Overall, bit of a let down. Its easy drinking, sure, but on par with a macro.

Re-reviewing... out of a bottle at home.

App: Very light, clear golden color.

Smell: Grassy, earthy, a little noble hops.

Taste: Finally more like a beer, a little malts but nothing special.

MF: Thin with a lingering funk.

Overall: Not good, not one I would try again.

This brewery recently underwent a shakeup in management so I tried it again after not liking it a few years ago.

Appearance: Clear golden with small head. No lacing.
Mouthfeel: Light to moderate body with light carbonation.
Aroma: Malty sweet with a little graininess.
Flavor: Initial maltiness followed by light grain flavors. Finishes with a clean bitterness and slight sweetness.

Overall I enjoyed this though it's a bit on the lighter side for a bock. It isn't a super complex Bock if you're looking to really go big, but makes up for it with good balance and being very drinkable so is a good change of pace from pale ales and lagers for a everyday drinker. Check the inside of the six pack for a date after Nov. 2012 though to make sure you get the newer batches.
