This full-bodied lager is our interpretation of a classic Bavarian Heller Maiboch, a style known for its well balanced, easy-drinking character. Distinguished by its rich medium-to-dark golden color, sweet, malty aroma, and delicate, flowery hop finish, Bayou Bock makes for a perfect accompaniment to a wide range of cuisine.

Malty, bready - sweet but not overly sweet. Some minor notes of dark fruit, mainly raisin-like. Herbal and mossy undertones. Earthy. Balanced. Mainly dry finish with some residual musty-earthy-herbal notes. Interesting and easy to drink. An unusual take on Bock.

Picked up a sixer at Rouses. I was hoping for a traditional bock, but I'll takes a helles. But is this a helles? There's a mild cookie note, that actually reminds me a lot of Heiner Brau's Oktoberfest, but cleaner. There's a little lemon in the finish, but the typical sweet fruit and big malts are missing. This is just pale lager with a little extra malt.

Poured from a brown 12 oz. bottle. Has a bronze color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is of malts, dark fruits. Taste is the same. Malty, sweet, dark fruits, just a touch of alcohol. Feels medium bodied in the mouth and overall is a solid and enjoyable beer.

Pours a translucent, light straw color with a 2-finger white head. Lighter in color than I would expect. Some sparkling lace.

Smell is yeast, sweet caramel malts, and...corn. The taste is slight toasted honey malts along with faint herbal hops. Aftertaste is metallic and sour. Mouthfeel is light-bodied; too light. Very carbonated, almost like a soft drink. Burns the palate.

This is not very drinkable. Heiner Brau puts out some good beers, this is not one of them. Pass on it.

Covington Brewhouse's Bayou Bock has a small off-white head and a very cloudy golden color. Aroma is fruity and sharp, but not strong. Taste is very fruity and corny, with an alcohol tinge. This beer has a very carbonated aspect, stinging the tongue. Mouthfeel is medium. All in all, this is a pleasant beer to drink, but it is not exactly what I was expecting from a bock. This beer is similar to Dixie, I find, especially its sour aspect. I liked it.

Covington Brewhouse Bayou Bock

Appearance: Clear golden, some lacing, and a medium-small head.

Smell: Malts and slight fruit (apple/pear?).

Taste: Pleasant malts and subtle fruits such as apples.

Mouthfeel: Light and slight thickness.

It tastes similar to a kolsch. It isn't very strong flavored and is best suited to sessions. However, it isn't really watery. It isn't bad, but is just a step above the typical American macro brews.

Pours a slightly hazy golden color with a fairly thick white head that recedes to a thin half-finger thick cap.

The smell is sweet and malty, but with odd metallic and corny aromas.

The malty taste comes through nicely, but there is this harsh alcohol taste, as well as the metallic quality from the nose. Not very pleasant IMO. Drinkability is not very good at all.

Medium-thin bodied with appropriate carbonation and a nice grainy texture.

Thanks to duff247 for this one.

Pours with a very fizzy almost 2 finger head that fades pretty quickly over crystal clear pale yellow golden tan colored beer.

Nose of light malts and wheat, lots of yeast, a big yeasty aroma, light dark wheats and a light lager like crisp lager yeast aroma.

Taste... bleh, not so good... some cheap adjunct or extract malt flavors, lots of cheap DME like flavors, some dark wheats but not much, a light spicy feel, some yeasty flavors, a light lager like yeast too with a crisp flavor, mostly dry, a light creamy malt flavor. Finishes with a light bitterness and spicy taste, a bit of a metallic taste as well.

Mouth is lighter bodied with lots of carbonation.

Drink is not so great, the yeasty flavors, as well as metallic on the finish and adjunct like flavors overpower so much it gets tough to drink. No real booze and smooth, but just not so tasty.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle, into a standard pilsner.

A: Medium golden hue. Medium carbonation. Pours about a 1 finger, bubbly, white head. Settles quickly. Effervesence continues to rise throughout. No lacing to speak of.

S: Malt, yeast, nutty. Pungent with bits of citrus and floral notes.

T: Really nutty and pungent malty flavor. Just a touch of sweetness, and a citrus note.

M: Full but light body. The flavor is pretty constant from start to finish here. There's a slight bite to cap it off, but otherwise nothing really differentiates the finish. Has kind of a thick, syrupy sense to it.

D: Decently full body, but relatively light. Not so-much so that's it's washed-out or anything.

Atmosphere is ok. Body characterized by constant carbonation, a quickly dissipating head, and no lacing though. Nose is really nutty, with a pungent malty tone and just a bit of citrus and floral hints. Flavor is very nutty with a bit of a floral sweetness, and syrupy body. Overall, this is a good quaff.

Thanks for sharing this, Bobby.

A: The pour is a fairly hazy golden color with a short lived white head.

S: The nose is absolutely sickly sweet. There is a ton of corn and a fair bit of straw. Definitely some grass with only a light bread character, possibly a little bit of garbage.

T: The intense sweetness carries over to the palate. Plenty more corn and other vegetables with some of the same straw and grass notes. Just a light bread and malt flavor, and minimal yeast notes.

M: This is light bodied with medium carbonation.

O: Way too sweet and way too much corn/vegetables.

Pours a hazy golden color with a white head which quickly dissipates.

Smells nutty and malty with some earthy yeast notes, some citrus and floral notes as well.

Taste was fairly mild. A nice malty nutty bock presence with slight bittering from citrus and earthy yeast notes. This is an easy drinking beer with more flavor than the bmc, but nothing overwhelming. It is pretty weak in flavor for a bock.
