I just went to the brew pub on the 2nd of July and it was great. The beer was wonderful and I really enjoyed the stout. I thought it was one of the better stouts I've had in recent years. Nice rich dark colour, smelled liked chocolate and coffee nice mouth feel. It was the best on their line up all thought the others are pretty good too. I would buy it in bottle if it was available. (385 characters)

500ml single bottle, newly made available in Alberta.

This beer pours a fairly solid black abyss, with very, very subtle basal mahogany, er, 'highlights', and three fingers of puffy, densely foamy, and somewhat creamy dark tan head, which leaves some nice stringy foreign-language script lace around the glass as it slowly ebbs away.

It smells of roasted bready, crackery caramel and pale malt, wet ashes, bittersweet cocoa powder, day-old coffee, a bit of minerality, and rather tame earthy, leafy hops. The taste is more pleasantly toasted caramel and bready maltiness, dry chocolate, weak coffee, a slight lactic sweetness, and earthy, musty hops.

The carbonation is perhaps a tad sharp at first, but softly lilting thereafter, the body a decent medium weight, and mostly smooth, just a bit of seemingly ashen residue tinkering about. It finishes off-dry, the roasted character duly lingering amongst generally fading coffee, chocolate, and leafy notes.

Not a bad stout, sort of lacking in the American qualities, however, but the initial add here can be forgiven for not immediately grokking the typically understated English nature of this offering. Tasty enough, with a gentle drying trend, which would point us in yet another direction. At any rate, try this one out - pedantry aside, it's an easy drinker. (1,317 characters)

Thanks to Al and Paul of Railway Spike Brewery for having this growler freshly brought in. Clear sweet coffee aroma. A medium brown, the lightest stout I have seen. A bit oflace. Lightly carbnated. Its cold coffee in a bottle, an not the best coffee taste. Average mouthfeel. A few sips and that's good enough for me. (316 characters)

On tap at The Gahan House as part of the sampler.
Pours a solid black color with a smallish but long lasting tan head.
Aromas of roasted coffee and cream with hints of chocolate and light fruit.
The flavor is roasty and sweet with bits of caramel and chocolate with just enough earth to counter.
I enjoyed this a lot its a pretty decent stout. (343 characters)

A friend of mine picked this up for me on her last visit to PEI. She apparently had to argue with he guy at the Gahan House, as they now tend to not fill growlers with the stout, claiming it goes flat really fast. Understandable, given that most of their stuff tends to go flat fairly fast.

Pours an inky black color with a minimal amount of chocolate head. Head does evaporate quickly, and there is no lacing.

Rich coffee and chocolate scent.

Taste was of a slightly sweet, slightly chilled coffee. Hint of chocolate at the end. Fairly smooth overall. Coffee flavor lingers.

It is fairly flat. It is drinkable still. Like most Gahan beers, it is probably way better on tap. (678 characters)

On tap at The Gahan House, Charlottetown, PEI.

Pours a near-pitch black, with some mahogany highlights in the body. A frothy, burnt egg white head rests elegantly on top.

Complex aroma with coffee, dark chocolate, burnt cream, and a touch of earthy hop. The taste backs this up, beginning with some grapefruity citrus which is followed by moderate coffee and caramel creamflavours with a nice touch of earth. Bitter, slightly burnt chocolate and a bit of earth add depth. Silky on the mouth, with notable carbonation that dissipates as you drink.

Very good stout. It's a limited edition that I hope will be still around (or back around) for my next trip to the Island. (674 characters)
