another beer my sister picked up for me on her honeymoon to the bahamas. poured from a fridge temp can into a pint glass. pours a clear pale straw yellow, slightly darker than a normal macro. big white fizzy head that disappeared quickly. no real lacing.

in the aroma you predominantly get buttered corn. faint floral hops in the background.

in the taste you get that buttery corn again. light grains and faint hops.

light body, watery mouthfeel, kind of weak carbonation.

pretty good drinkability, nice for a friday night party or something, would take this over a couple other macros.

Pale straw with a nice cap of eggshell head. Poor retention, no lacing. Cereal aroma, light dms. Watery, grainy flavour with light corn. Light-bodied and vigorously carbonated - feels thin and prickly. Typical for the style, and by far not the worst of the style.

We put away a few cases of these while in the Bahamas for a couple weeks. Since imported beer (U.S. or European) was very expensive there, the local beer was the best way to go.

Appearance: Clear pale yellow with a decent white foamy head that doesn't lace but recedes to a nice white cap.

Smell: Faint grains and malts with just a hint of hops. Not horrible, but pretty average for the adjunct lager style.

Taste: Sweet, grainy and a little hops. Definitely more hops than it's Bahamas competitor 'Kalik'. Not a horrible adjunct lager, but also very average...this is normal for this style of beer (which is why it's one of my least favorite styles). Adding a lime wedge to the bottle actually adds a little life to this one (just like with Mexico's Corona lager).

Mouth feel: Light-bodied. Medium-low carbonation.

Drinkability: This is the beer in the Bahamas I would go for again, if I could find it. It wasn't as easy to find in the Bahamas as 'Kalik' (which is everywhere there), but it's definitely the better local beer and worth the search. I wouldn't seek this out at home, but I would drink it again in the Bahamas without complaints.

Again I'm not sure of the brewery with this one. It says Bahamian Brewery and Beverage Co. on the can. But they are not listed in BA's database and when I tried to add it I couldn't b/c I didn't know the address, phone, website ect...
One of the palest yellows I've seen. Minimum head with minimum retention.
Complete lack of aroma.
Pretty typical macro flavors. Lot's of adjuncts. I don't think the Bahamian beers are brewed with rice to that accounts for some difference with the American Macro Lagers.
Thin, light bodied.
Nothing interesting here but it's quaffable.

Thanks out to my Aunt Christy, who brought this one back from the islands on a recent cruise. 12 oz clear bottle with a best by stamp of 25 Jul 10. Pours a very clear, medium gold color with a tight-bubbled white foam that hangs around a good while surprisingly.

Smells of mildly sweet grains and a bit of typical adjunct corn. I do not get much in the way of cardboard, which seems to be noticeable in many AALs. Not bad, smells fresh and no skunking from the clear bottle.

Flavor is quite grainy and pretty light overall, a bit more than a light beer and a little less than most full-strength offerings. There is a notable hop presence on the finish, grassy even. Has a pretty good balance for an adjunct lager and the flavor is pretty decent. I could easily drink a few of these sitting at a beachside tiki bar. I would say this one is a notch or two above average for the style.

Pours a clear, pale yellow color with a huge, expected white head. Head falls pretty darn slow. Thin lace.

Smells like a macro lager. Grains, week hops a maybe a little musty.

Typical clean lager taste. Mild malts and no real hops. Refreshing enough.

Thin, watery and well carbonated in the mouth.

Typical beer for the style. Thirst quenching but nothing spectacular. Would drink over a Bud.

Bahamian Brewery Sands

Smell: Skunky, malty grains.

Taste: Grains, malts, and a hint of hops.

Mouthfeel: Smooth and slightly watery.

Overall:
Not a bad lager. It is similar to the American macrobreweries. It is very average.

12oz can poured into standard glass.
Due to lack of options, I put down numerous Sands and Sands Light on a recent trip to the Bahamas. Not terrible as far as the style goes but was not very good either. Watery, straw color. Small head and very little aroma. Tastes a bit malty at first then falls flat. Has a little husky, grainy taste in there too. Just enough hops for balance but no hop flavour. Overall, not much better than any other adjunct pale lager.

Thanks to ygtbsm94 for sharing this can. Served in a SAVOR snifter.

Pours a clear light yellow color with a very thin, short-lasting head. A very slight touch of lacing. The nose is very vegetal and metallic with a bit of grain in the background. Flavor is almost all cooked vegetable along with just a hint of barley in the background. Very light body with a metallic finish. Pretty gross. Avoid this.
