The colour is almost black (90 EBC), the liquid is clear. The two finger head is pale brown and compact. It sinks slowly leaving almost no lacing.

The smell is malty and roasted. It is smooth without any harshness. Malt sourness, dark chocolate and a touch of black coffee. Quite a lot of biscuits, hints of dough, tobacco smoke and flowers.

The taste is dry and bitter with coffee and chocolate. Clean bitterness and a touch of toffee. Medium body. Some alcohol in the aftertaste, as well as floral/herbal flavours, and growing bitterness. Creamy coffee notes in the finish.

The carbonation is mid-strong, the large bubbles fresh. The liquid is dry and quite light.

A nice stout with enough depth too keep it interesting, and not too heavy to drink.

I tried a pint of this beer off the tapper at the brewery pub in Dublin. It poured an opaque dark with white head that left a fine lace. The scent had subtle roast and chocolate hop notes. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with sweet malt base and the subtle roast chocolate through the drink. The mouthfeel was medium in body but with good carbonation. Overall it was a great beer.

330 ml bottle with tear-off cap, from Ølkonsortiet, Aalborg. ABV is 5%. Very dark brown to black colour, large beige head. Roasty aroma with notes of mild coffee and dark chocolate, a hint of wood and bonfires, also hints of hops. Very nice roasty flavour, fairly dry, notes of coffee, hints of dark bitter chocolate and wood, decent hops throughout. Not extreme in any way, just well balanced and highly drinkable.

From notes 12/8/11: Pours a clear deep brown (black) with a ruby tint when held to the light. The pour produces slightly more than 2 fingers of fluffy, short-lived, tan head that leaves patchy lace as it recedes. Aroma is dark roasted malt, dark chocolate and prune. Taste is semisweet dark chocolate, pumpernickel, molasses sweet tones and a hint of coffee. There is a low level hop presence throughout the sip. Coffee and a pleasant bitterness are the most pronounced flavors in the aftertaste.

On tap at the brewery. Dark brown, nearly black color with dense tan head. Smells of roasted malt. Medium body and creamy feel. Tastes of roasted malt and vanilla. Very enjoyable!

Draft at the Porterhouse Bar in Dublin
Dark brown bordering on black but some light still gets through. Rich caramel and light chocolate maltiness with bits of roast and licorice. Pretty stand up English style porter.

I had this on a flight (8 ounces each beer!) in a Dublin pub May 2018. It was definitely the best beer on the flight. Frankly, it tasted more than a little like Guinness stout. That's probably not something to say out loud in Ireland. I believe it was a nitro.

Had on tap. Billed as “best stout in the world”, malarkey at its finest. Very plain in smell, with roasted malt leading. Taste was bland Irish dry stout, with some subtle sweetness on finish. “Most enjoyable average Irish Stout in the world” is more fitting.

330ml bottle from a Beer52 box (£0.75):
It easy to tell where the name comes from with this one, the beer definitely isn't the most varied tasting but it was an enjoyable offering that was well executed & balanced, going down quite easily from the start with some nice roasted malts throughout. There was some early smoke showing that soon gave way to a few bitter flavours & some chocolate to add to the sweetness without overpowering at any point; it was a good beer & proved very easy to drink too.
