Clear pale amber with two fingers of off white head that has some staying power. Fair lacing.
Smell is unusual for a Northwest IPA. Not bad just different. Slight medicinal quality and a hint of butterscotch syrup.
Taste is hop bitterness with a fair amount of sweetness from the malt. After further sniffing I do get a hint of tropical fruit but very faint.
Some pink grapefruit is starting to come out in the flavor as it warms.
Mouthfeel is a bit thin and low carbonation. Medium wet bitter finish.
Don't know what to say in summary. Probably need to try a fresh one on tap at the brewery.
I asked my son to smell it for me and his take on the aroma was it had some Belgian character. (688 characters)

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a coppery amber with a thin off-white head with good retention and lacing. Aroma is an unusual biscuity malt and light citrus, grassy hops, mildly vegetal. Flavor starts biscuity with citrus hops, then seems to fade away until roaring back with a lingering, almost resinous citrus and grassy hop bitterness. Medium bodied. A somewhat idiosyncratic American IPA with a interestingly different malt body and an interesting but not very differentiated hop component. I liked the hop flavors in the finish and this grew on me as I drank the glass. Nice for a change of pace in IPAs. (628 characters)

22 oz bottle from "Roths Sunnyslope Market" in S.Salem. $4.99 Never seen a bottled Gilgamesh beer and had kinda lost track of this Salem brewery in the last year as more stuff got going in town. Typical pale orange colour for an IPA, head is large and substantial (white). Strange subdued aroma..resiny/powdery hop..some green onion, honestly not attractive. Taste is better mainly because it has a tremendous caramel malt backing..hops are still rather powdery, it works kinda but not a wonderful experience. Mouth feel is fine for style. Had my hopes up as i have had great stuff from Gilgamesh..but this is a wee bit of a let down. (633 characters)

Color is a golden orangey with a big foam in the New Belgium snifter. Interesting aroma of cedar and straw with some piney hops. Pleasant malty warmth to start. Some pine with the grapefruit peel taste. Moderately bitter with a touch of walnut skins.

Overall this is a typical roughhouse IPA with a lighter body and plenty of hop acidity. More bitterness than is needed in the long aftertaste. From the 22 oz bottle purchased at New Seasons Market in Portland.

Very mild, mellow IPA. Not very hoppy. (38 characters)
