Style: American Double / Imperial Pilsner

Alcohol by volume (ABV): 11.00%

Availability: Winter

Notes / Commercial Description:
Half the water. Twice the awesome.

When you brew coffee using only half the water, you get a pretty potent pot of java, right? Which got us thinking, why not try that with beer? So we took our original Orange Blossom Pilsner, cut the water and voi-frickin’-la: pot o’ awesome sauce we call OBP2. A double dose of all-natural ingredients, including real Orange Blossom Honey. No refined sugar. It’s the bee’s knees, brahs.

An extra from a BA who thought it was terrible and sent it as a joke. Every one gets a shot.

Well, it doesn't look terrible; on the other hand, it doesn't look great. Very little head even made the effort to coalesce into something in this heavy brownish-orange brew, and what did make the effort didn't have much success. That said, a bit of foam does cling to the edges in a ring, and there are even a few little spots of lacing.
Orange is the main component, not simply citrus but very specifically orange. There's almost a sugary sweetness to it, like dried and candied fruits have, and no rind element. There must be honey malts in here at the very least, too. There's plenty of it in the smell, and any honey actually used in the brewing process wouldn't come out like this. Some grains sneak out, though alcohol barely does, defying the supposed 11% ABV.
Syrupy sweet, the flavor gets a bit messy. It's almost like orange drink pandered to children. Oddly, the taste is more honey than orange, the reverse of the smell in that regard. Some graininess is here along with a ghost of pale malts and an even paler ghost of something like floral hops. It all gets dominated by the sweetness.
There's some body to this brew, a bit of a crisp nip that fades a little as it goes, and a light carbonation. Overall, though, it's unpleasantly sticky.

Clean, malty, and balanced for the strength. Reminds me of a low-spice tripel for the similar light caramel and toast barley flavors. Also, there's a sweet honey note in the finish. Not a super interesting beer, but well made and dangerous.

Poured from a 12 OZ can into a pint glass.
Aroma- Smells like oranges with a hint of honey. the ABV is well hidden.
Appearance- pours a burnt orange with a small white head
Taste- uhhmm, orange and honey, very little beer flavor for me. No hint of the ABV, a scary beer to drink not knowing the ABV. LOL
Palate- A medium bodied beer with moderate carbonation. This beer has an oily texture.
Overall- Not a horrible beer, it is rather average to above average. The high ABV matched to the price point is probably very helpful to the brewer. I bet this is popular for that reason.

Served in a tulip pint glass from the bottle.

A - Pours a deep orange copper tone with no head whatsoever. I'm not exaggerating. I was told by a buddy that there was no head when he poured his, so I assumed he had just poured it incorrectly, but sure enough...there was none! It looked like a glass of orange drink. Not very appealing. May have been an old batch? Not sure...I see another reviewer had a small head on his.

S - Smell was a step back in the right direction. There was a nice sweet tangerine scent with a hint of that orange blossom honey. A little citrus hoppiness seemed to peak through as well.

T - Sweet. Really really sweet. This is closer to a cheap mead than it is a beer, certainly closer than a pilsner as there was absolutely no trace of hops bitterness that I could find. It was all honey. I couldn't even taste that pleasant orange scent I was getting in the aroma. I had a bit of trouble finishing it, and I'm quite happy I only bought a single. Oddly enough, the 11% abv was well masked, so I have to give them that.

M - Very slick and very little carbonation. As mentioned earlier, perhaps this was an old batch that had been hanging around the store for a bit too long. I hope that's the case.

O - Not a very enjoyable experience overall. The most appealing part is the scent, but other than that, I'd pass. If this is being rated against other beers in its category (which it is), then it falls flat on its face. I don't see how this is in any way a pilsner.

Damn, for such a high ABV, I don't really taste any of the alcohol. The beer is also very smooth and drinks, probably a bit too easy. You will definitely taste the orange blossom honey (my favorite kind of honey actually). It is a bit on the sweeter side, but I personally don't mind that too much.

Just doesn't finish very well. Not memorable at all.

Overly sweet. Besides that it's pretty decent, the alcohol is fairly well hidden. If they toned down the sweetness by 25% and added some additional hops to give this beer some additional flavor, this could be pretty decent.

S- orange blossoms and honey. No trace of the 11%

T- honey, faint traces of orange little bite of a pils

M- sticky sticky sticky

O- it's alright I enjoy the sticky mouthfeel. Wish more of the orange came through. Not bad don't know if ill come back to this one though.
