Toasted Coconut Porter is a brown porter that’d be a great beer on its own is even better with a subtle toasted coconut character that complements the dark grains wonderfully. A complex and exotic potion that’s an easy drinking, refreshing tropical elixir.

I was hoping to like this beer but not having much experience with coconut porters, the benchmark I used was porters (in general) and Window Seat by Baxter Brewing which is another coconut flavored American Porter which I did like.

Can marked "Canned APR/27/15", tasted on 6/13/15.

The look was not a deep as a typical porter. Smell retained a nutty, roast nose with a slight breeze of coconut. The taste was crisp and refreshing but lacked the bolder back that it should have. A very metallic note remained throughout drinking. The hint of coconut kept trying to peek up but primarily stayed back. Despite being a crisp drink, a moderate smooth body was apparent.

Given a 6-pack was purchased, I will end up finishing the rest but it will not be a beer that I buy again. I may instead give a couple to the neighbors. (821 characters)

Poured from 12 oz can into a tall Pilsner glass. Nice head, short lasting. Nice brown color, sweet chocolate and coconut smell. First swallow is startling when the coconut kicks in, but from then on, this is a fine Porter. Mouth feel is smooth. Would really like to try this on tap--maybe Saturday while in Orlando. (315 characters)

Poured from a bottle into a shaker pint, the beer is a vibrant, dark, amber-highlighted brown coloring with a low profile, dense, off-white head. Aromas of bittersweet chocolate, subtle cream highlights, toasted notes, and a very subtle coconut richness. Smells good, but extremely light. Flavors have a bit more of the coconut, as well as a bit less of the chocolate. Creamy notes help to balance everything out, as well as mute some of the more bitter characteristics. Cocoa and coffee forward, with a cream blend, and the coconut sweet and rich builds quite a bit towards the end of the palate. Smooth, but light bodied, leading into a somewhat muddled aftertaste that just misses the flavor of a Mounds bar. Tangy sweet and slightly bitter linger into the light, slightly frothy, slightly cloying finish. (808 characters)
