From a growler (summer 2010):

This Irish Red is a seasonal from Jim and company. Appears an amber red color. A more malt forward beer (than hop). Goes down easy - maybe too easy. A nice solid flavor to this beer as well.

Jim has a knack for making highly drinkable beers and Chief Lightfoot is no exception.

I had this on tap in a Sam Adams perfect pint glass at Special Brews in Lynnwood, WA.

Appearance: one of the deepest, darkest Irish reds I've seen. Color is a very dark red-brown hue with no haze but dark enough to obfuscate any effervescence. Head was a minimum layer of tan foam but leaves a very nice lace on the glass.

Smell: lightly sweet caramel aroma with a little fruitiness. Mild, but not bad.

Taste: rich flavor that is almost fruity in its complexity; there's a good caramel element here but it is not over the top. The fruitiness is berrylike in character; a bit odd but very good indeed. It is actually growing on me quite a lot as I keep sipping.

Mouthfeel: medium body with a good carbonation and decent creaminess.

Overall: a unique and extremely drinkable Irish red. Very possibly my favorite example of the style. (836 characters)
