Hit up Growler's while on a HHI vacation.

Excellent bottle selection, with everything ranging from a wide variety of Belgian imports to beers from The Bruery, Cascade, Bell's, Terrapin, RJ Rockers, Dogfish Head one-off's, and more. Could spend lots of time in this store, and the layout is spacious and accommodating.

Wasn't much service when I was there, as the lady behind the counter seemed preoccupied with whatever she was doing (store was nearly empty), but she did hit us up with a free Growler's pint glass and koozie upon checking out with $70+ worth of craft beer [EDIT: via BM, I was told she was working on updating their tap list]. I also liked the fact that they have a large selection of on-tap selections at the back of the store and (as the namesake would imply) plenty of growlers to fill in 32, 64, and 128 (!) ounce sizes.

Prices are reasonable, but a little on the high side. Still, a place that's definitely worth checking out as it has the best bottle selection on the island--by far.

NO LONGER IN BUSINESS!

Great little beer store with a fantastic growler-fill selection. Here's what I had to pick from over this past weekend:

Tap 1. Pirate's Pilsner
Tap 1.2 Red Hare Rabbits Reserve Rauch Bier
Tap 1.3 Westbrook Marzenbier
Tap 1.4 PALM
Tap 1.5 Sam Adams Fat Jack
Tap 1.6 Allagash White
Tap 1.7 Rouge Beard Beer
Tap 1.8 Sierra Neveda Beer Camp Black IPA
Tap 2.1 Allagash Hugh Malone
Tap 2.2 Westbrook Citrus Ninja Exchange
Tap 2.3 Stone Enjoy By 11/12/13
Tap 2.4 Green Flash Green Bullet
Tap 2.5 Sierra Nevada Narwhal
Tap 2.6 COAST Boy King
Tap 2.7 New Belguim L.O.F. Imperial Coffee Stout
Tap 2.8 Great Divide Yeti

I'm from the Charlotte, NC, area - I'd never had access to Allagash Hugh Malone on draft. I also scored growlers of Citrus Ninja Exchange, which I'd only had in a bottle prior - COAST's Boy King, which I kept sealed and brought back home to share with some buds - and a small growler of Yeti. I refilled the Citrus Ninja Exchange the next day for some Narwhal.

I read a review a moment ago that questioned the service, man - that's the exact opposite of what I experienced. The service was as good as it gets - I was given a sample of everything I asked for - and then some. The guys knew their stuff and it was a blast talking brewing with them.

The bottle shop portion of the store was good too - lots of stuff I can't find in NC.

They also sell homebrewing supplies - how cool is that?

If you're on the island - this is a must stop spot.

Stopped in on my trip to HHI after reading reviews and getting feedback on the regional forum.

Selection: Decent selection in bottles and cans with quite a few regional brews (Love Westbrook!) Draft selections on that day were great too. Note for freshness geeks - I would watch out for some of the dated IPA and annuals that are still on the shelf.

Quality - As stated Great Draft selections and the regional IPA's I bought were only a few weeks to a month old at the latest.

Service - Maybe the guy working was having a bad day or I said something that rubbed him the wrong way (I've been known to do that) but he was grumpy and only cared about his opinion. Also after sampling the "Enjoy by" and purchasing a growler, I asked for a second sample of something else (believe it was River Dog) that I was also interested in purchasing and was told I'd have to come back for their 4PM tasting??? Never had that happen before at a growler fill store. I paid and left.

Value - Prices seemed odd to me and had a range from GREAT deal to overpriced. My growler of "Enjoy by" was super cheap compared to two other placesI've bought it since and the 6 pack of Westbrook IPA cans came in at $12 (2nd plug for Westbrook). On the overpriced end, some of the stuff on the shelf especially the bombers were 20% more than I'm used to paying.

Overall - As others have stated and as far as I could tell this is your only option for packaged craft beer on the island so take it or leave it. I'll definitely stop back in for some Westbrook offerings (3rd plug) and hopefully a few growlers if I can sample AND then buy.

We stopped by Growlers when we were leaving Hilton Head and Beer Advocate didn't let us down.

Atmosphere - Nice, clean store. Lots of selection and well laid out.

Quality - Good selection with a lot of top notch brews. Some had BA scores listed.

Service - Excellent service. My wife and I talked to one of the guys for 15-20 minutes. Very attentive to what our preferred style was and what they had. They even recommended brews to get in Savannah where we were staying.

Selection - Good selection of West Coast IPAs (our favorite). Had big Belgium sections if you are into that style. Good selection of regional brews too. Good selection of draft for growler fills.

Value - they are on an island, so a slight premium is required. I don't think you could find anything better in that area either.

Overall - This is a great craft brew store with knowledgable staff. They even have home brew supplies which is pretty cool.

Reading the reviews on here I figured I should stop at Growlers at least one time on my trip. Well let's just say I was expecting a lot more. The selection was decent but a lot of the beer was available in my home state of Ohio. It was nice to see some Foothills, Coast and Allagash but most of their beer was in big bottles and the cost wasn't friendly. 18.99 for a double ipa from foothills????

I grabbed some Terrapin Wake and Bake then asked the guy behind counter which canned IPA I should get. He recommended getting the Caldera IPA over some other beers they had. I came home and opened one up to find that it was less than mediocre but cost me over 12 dollars.

Overall I would say stop here if you are on the island but don't expect a lot. They probably have the best selection on the island but you probably have a better beer store right down the road.

So I'm visiting Hilton head island with some friends on our spring break (senior year) and we happened to find this joint after grabbing some liquor next door. (By the way, my favorite liquor store on the island, they gave us 2 huge cans of pineapple juice for free). Anyway, I walked in and saw various empty rare beers along with a great selection of locals and seasonals. I tried my luck after having a long conversation with the shopkeeper about oak aged old guardian and I'm glad I did. Sexual chocolate. In the back. I was through the roof! Three minute conversation and I'm in the secret stash! Great looking shop, knowledgeable people working there and a good selection. Try this when you get here, get to know the people, know what to ask for based on what is out. Cheers!

EDIT-- after spending an hour or two driving around and hitting up any other store I could find on the island, my rating has increased for Growlers. This is the best place to grab beer on HHI.

We are staying at Fiddler's Cove condo complex, and being our first night here we had to do some grocery shopping...
Well what better place to shop than a Piggly Wiggly that happens to have a beer store in the same plaza?!

It's a pretty big place with shelves lining both sides and the growler station at the back. 4 different sized growlers and a surprisingly decent variety of tap handles. Pilsners to pale ales to imperial pumpkins and imperial stouts.

I grabbed a 1/4 gallon flip top growler filled with Aviation HogWild IPA. The fill was solid- lots of places fill the growler with beer all the way to the top, but I've long been under the impression that leaving a little headspace is better. Not quite sure why, but this beer was quite delicious and I had no issues.

The bottle selection was good-- lots of stuff I expected to see and some smaller local brews I hadn't even heard of.
Very small number of imports.

I grabbed a bottle of Riserva but the employee was unable to tell me if they were batch 1 or batch 3... Oh well.

Bottom line-- I'll be stopping here again before I leave... Probably get another growler filled again.

Great place to have in Hilton Head. Being from a bigger city, I did not expect much but this is a nice store. Great selection, great and friendly service and easy to find location...Next to the Piggily Wiggily(the name freaks me out). If you're staying on the island, you MUST visit this place.

Oh yeah, they sell home brew supplies as well.

OK...My comment has to be at least 500 characters. Why must I use 500 characters when I can say all that is needed with less?

This is a great place....There!

Small, hole-in-the-wall store tucked in next to a Piggly Wiggly.

Atmosphere - Nice. Clean, neat, everything was well-arranged and brightly lit.
Quality - Much much better than I was expecting for Hilton Head. I was thrilled to get a growler of Boy King and Westbrook Gose.
Service - Service, for the most part, was excellent. Greeted upon arrival, offered assistance in finding anything and filling up growlers. Did have a snafu with one the singles I picked up not being in the system, and it took the guy 5-10 minutes to add it in, but otherwise no complaints.
Selection - Much much better than I was expecting for Hilton Head. Lots of local and regional options (Coast, Foothills, Westbrook, etc.).
Overall - If you will be going to Hilton Head, definitely swing by Growlers. I see no need to bring beer with me next time I visit.

I read about this place on BA and decided to make the trek this morning with some friends. We traveled about 80 miles one way to get this store, but it was defiantly worth the trip. Growlers has just about every major craft brewery represented that you can think of well stocked. There are plenty of selections from Bell's, Rouge, Dogfish head, and The Great Divide are all well represented. There is also plenty of local breweries from GA to SC represented. The centerpiece of this location however is the Growler bar. The owner gladly served my pals and I samples until we arrived at our desired selections. I settled on the Sierra Nevada Fresh Hop Celebration Ale, quite delish I must say. All in all I love this store and recommend it to anyone seeking out great beer. I will be back eventually and will continue to spread it's praises.

Walked in expecting a much smaller place and was amazed at their selection of craft beers. They claims they just ran out of Founders to my dismay; however, I went back twice in 1 day and came out of there with:several 6 packs of Westbrook IPA and White Thai ; 2 bottles of Mexican Cake from Westbrook: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/24134/78011 ; Café Royale: http://beeradvocate.com/beer/profile/14952/61241 ; as well as many singles. They have a decent singles wall, as well as a 12+ taps for growlers only. I took all 14 people that wI was traveling with to the Saturday free beer tasting from 4-6 pm, which was a bit overwhelming for the store. We ended up purchased several growlers and a few more six packs. I would definitely go back to this place again.

Stopped by after seeing this place on BA. Not a very large store, a big rectangle that you can see everything from standing in the middle. It's divided up by region and a good mix of single bottles and 6/4 packs. A bar in the back with 12 taps that constantly rotate. There are very good beers on the shelf, mostly American brews, with a section devoted to Belgians. When I went the growler bar was closed and the person there clearly didn't know much about beer, some young chick just collecting a pay check. For it's location it's unbeatable since there isn't much good beer on Hilton Head so it is an oasis when traveling to the island. Would stop by if you need something good in a pinch otherwise bring your own beer to HHI.

What a great little shop! A bit hard to find, but definitely worth seeking out--Growler's is nestled in a little strip mall between the Piggly Wiggly and a pizza place. Apparently there's a local ordinance against neon or any backlit signs, which made it even harder for me to find. Pulling in at dusk, at first I thought they were closed--luckily, they were not!

Friendly greeting from Luke, who then gave us a tour of the shelves. Great selection of local brews, a wall full of Belgians of all varieties, and a wide selection of limited production/ distribution American craft brews from all across the country. Of course the crowning jewel is the back wall lined with draft selections--mostly local, very fresh-- waiting to fill your growler. I had a few samples, and picked up a growler each of COAST Wadmalaw Sunset and Westbrook American Bitter. Great growler fills! Thanks Luke! Also picked up several bottles. Spent more than I intended while I was there, but I don't regret it.

Highly recommend paying a visit to this place if you find yourself in Hilton Head.

Went to Growlers while on vacation in Hilton Head Island, SC.

The place is a little hard to find, like everything in Hilton Head, but the inside is well laid out with nice shelf space. In the back is the namesake taps for filling growlers, which you can fill in 32, 64 and 128 oz sizes. The selection is pretty good, lots of locals, and a good selection of other craft brews, including cascade, allagash, bell's and ommegang. The homebrewing section wasn't particularly great but I imagine there aren't many options on the island. Overall, I was quite impressed and will likely return next year.

This place is just what Hilton Head needed...bring your gowlers and have at it!!!
Great selection of draft beer and a wonderful service atmosphere. Always a fairly good line up of beers to fill the growlers and a very nice selection of beer to go....bottles and cans alike.
Service very good and very accomodating.
Nice accessories for growlers and such.
Nice place to get some great beer. Its a great addition to the island!
Plenty of local breweries represented as well as national/regional as well.
Hit it many times in the week I have been here.

This place is unique.

Walking in you pass walls lined with bottled beers--to the left of the register there is a wall of imports--European craft, specialty Belgians, etc. Moving past that, you'll find several shelves brimming with American craft brews. This ranges from the far West (Stone, North Coast) to the East (Dogfish Head, Sweetwater) and in between (Hoppin' Frog, Bell's). I picked up some Dale's Pale Ale cans for the beach, as well as a B.O.R.I.S the Crusher for the evening.

Growler's has some beer you can find at most good beer stores, and then some rarities sitting on the shelves, as well. They had some large format bottles from New Belgium that I had not seen before, Dogfish Head Burton Baton, and a few other interesting finds hiding amongst the shelves.

Toward the back of the store you will find the growler bar. They sport 16 rotating taps. Here you will find local beers (Skull Coast), some standard styles, as well as some big hitters (Stone Belgo Anise IRS, and an excellent sour Flanders ale from New Belgium). I am not sure that if you take in your own growler they will fill it, as I hadn't brought any empties from home. They do sell the widest growler selection I have ever seen--going from a smaller (32 ounce?) size, to the standard 64 ounce, to the enormous full gallon growler. Each varies in price, and the beer fill cost depends on the style and quantity. We took home a 64 ounce growler filled with Coast's Boy King DIPA.

Overall, this place is great. The beer cost is a little pricey, but in a place where nothing really exists like this, it is totally worth it (and not overly unreasonable). The beer selection is the best on the island that I have found, and the store is unique--oh yeah, if you feel like brewing, they have a small homebrew section near the back of the store, too.

This place is all about craft brew. You might be able to get a case of Busch Lite if you're lucky, but it's not what they're about.

The quality is exceptional. It's 99% craft beer.

This place is hampered a bit by South Carolina state laws, but aside from that, service is as good as can be expected.

It's a small store, but they pack it with some good stuff. It doesn't have 800 or 1300 selections, but it's got all the big players.

Everything at Hilton Head is expensive and I expected the worst from this place. Instead, I paid $42 for 6 bombers.

I still hate Hilton Head, but this place is great.

This was my first time coming to Hilton Head Island when I was of legal age and this the first stop I made. It did not disappoint. Being from Chicago I got some great beers that I otherwise could trade for. Ballast Point and Terrapin were two of the highlights with Sweetwatwr being right there. Also getting two growlers filled with a local tripel and Foothill's BA People's Porter were the great thing I wasn't accustomed to being from the Chi and our crazy repackaging laws. I enjoyed my time at Growlers with the friendly service, greatly atmosphere and friendly service. A+

Agree with Ding that this is a big step in a positive direction for HHI as far as craft beer availability. We've been coming to HHI for years, and being able to fill up a growler or two for the week makes the vacay so much more enjoyable.

I like the way Growlers has a nice selection of imports and domestics to go along with a nice variety of local SC products which is what I was aiming for. I thought the prices were a little higher than what I was used to. But all in all I didn't see anything that was way overpriced.

Service was very helpful. I especially like that he has tasting notes for all of his taps. I went in hoping to get a growler of one brew which he didn't have. So it was good that he had so many other varieties to choose from.

I can't wait to get back for a refill.

This place is located in a strip mall next to the Piggly Wiggly and is a little hard to see with a liquor store just a few doors down. Upon entering you see a nice collection of craft beers, broken out by section - Belgians, East Coast, West Coast, and local area. I was here for some local area beers and this place fit the bill.

The store is clean and well planned out. There is a bar in the back for growler fills and sampling sessions.

Beers from COAST, Terrapin, Bells, Stone, French Broad, Sweetwater, Victory, Bear Republic, and New Belgium (several La Folie versions) were available.

Service was very helpful and pleasant. Prices seemed reasonable for a resort area. This place is a must stop for any BA visiting Hilton Head if you are looking to stock up on your vacation week or to bring some nice beers home.

Stopped in twice while on vacation in Hilton Head. This place is pretty phenomenal in terms of service. Every wednesday and sunday they do free beer tastings (you get four ~4oz. samples from their tap list). Growlers ar 4-5 dollars I believe for the 64 oz. size. They had smaller and larger sizes as well. Reasonable selection of craft beers along the walls, a few chilled. They have some basic beer making equipment and about 10 malt styles on sale as well. The selection on tap is pretty good. Had a lot of beers you can get anywhere (dogfish, stone, ommegang) but in addition, they had SweetWater dank tank 2010, which the guy working said their keg was one of the few available in the state. Would have liked to see a few more regionals though

Beer tasting was a plus, but I with they would have given a glass rinse in between tastes. They were a bit understaffed though, and still provided pretty excellent service, so I really didn't care too much. If you are on vacation on HHI, you owe yourself a stop or two or three. I went twice within maybe 4 days and they had changed 3-4 taps, so their tap inventory is always new. Awesome place!
