Bottle from Broue HAHA. From notes.

A - Hazy blonde pour. Good carbonation coming up. Two fingers of white soapy head on top leaving chunky lace and a film of retention.

S - Wood, slight hops, honey, sweet malt.

T - Lot's of honey, sweet malt and some grassiness.

M - Nice and smooth, nice carbonation, full body with a sweet finish.

O/D - Quite nice, sweet and drinkable. A more fruity element would have worked well here, otherwise it's good.

A big beer. Think I've tried this before but can't remember when. Maybe Mondial Montreal 2010.

A- Something between gold and copper. Nice thick, whipped egg-white head. Tons of random lacing.Specs, lines, big ol' patches very nice. Head retention is not the best though.

S- Yeast is strong with this one. Banana and dry graininess. Peculiar if you're not used to this sort of beer but not that great or special a smell. A bit of caramel. Oh, and alcohol of course! Very well integrated but can't forget it. Warming up, I'm getting peach. Also when it's warm enough the alcohol is almost like rubbing alcohol.

T- A lot like the smell. This tastes good but just not as tasty as I expected it.

M- Pretty smooth. Has a certain rough, prickly champagne feel to it but overall very smooth. Foams up in mouth a little but I'd like it drier, more effervescent and generally just more champagne like.

D- Good. I'm kind of starting to get a headache with a little less than a half the bottle through so I might be off on this one. I usually always like to drink bottles by myself even liters but I'd definitely share this one.

Good. I'd buy it to take to dinner for some white wine drinkers but next time at the beer store, I'm pretty sure I'll just buy something new as I always do.

Picked this up after a great weekend in Montreal. 750ml bottle poured into a Dieu Du Ciel tulip.

A: Golden in color with a decent head when poured vigourously. Soapy lacing that doesn't fade away.

S: Smells of alcohol and tropical fruit. Banana notes definitely present. Perhaps a hint of lavender too.

T: Buttery and sweet. Lightly caramel too. Alcohol is well hidden for such a potent beer. The chardonnay yeast is noticeable and lends this beer a hint of wine taste.

M: Lots of carbonation. Very light and not syrupy at all. Slightly dry.

D: Well the bottle went down very fast. Definitely easy to drink, especially if you like to drink wine.

This was a nice, refreshing beer and a great change of pace. Went well with my dinner of pork loin and roasted root vegetables.

750 ml bottle, served in a "La fin du Monde" glass.

Hazy blond belgian with a solid head, some lacing. Aroma of raw wheat and yeast, a faint note of old oak and noble hops.

Flavor is a little muddled, alot of yeast caracter, a little oak and citrus astingency. A wheat malt-like presence.

Nothing out of the ordinary, but I enjoyed it none the less.

Viggo shared this one. thanks eric!

750ml bottle, 2008 vintage. sampled dec 28/08.

pours deep orangey amber with a bit of haze and a big dense off-white head. the head drops fairly fast and leaves a few spots of lace.

aroma is neat. seems more belgian than american. cracker. white bread. bit of biscuit. raw oak. white grape. faint hint of vanilla. bit of alcohol. light caramel. there's some other barrel wackiness at play here too.

taste is good. medium-low bitterness level. wine and white grape. raw oak. biscuit. lightly toasted wheat bread. cracker. touch of rye spiciness, but that could just be from the barrel. hint of vanilla. light alcohol. bit of caramel and honey, but without any real sweetness. slightly tannic. bit of lemony citrus, but not overly puckering or sour.

mouthfeel is good. medium-high carbonation level. fairly light body with a bone dry finish.

drinkability is good. it hides its alcohol very well. the barrel has added an interesting complexity to the mix while not being too overbearing. i liked this one.

750 ml bottle picked up at the Atwater market over the summer, seems like interesting stuff.

Pours a lightly hazy amber orange, really nice colour, brilliant depth, medium sized white head forms, quickly settles to a medium ring and layer, some lace chunks on the glass, looks good. Smell is neat, sweet and malty, yeasty, honey, wood, grapes, fruity, bit of lemon acidity in the aroma. Taste is neat, lightly sour and white grapey, some oak, lemons, light fruits, juice, crackers, light peppery spice in the finish, hides alcohol very well, some acidity. Mouthfeel is light to medium bodied with medium carbonation, smooth and refreshing.

Bottle: Poured a hazy blonde color ale with a large foamy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma consist of a very nice Belgian malt base with some spicy yeast and some light white grapes notes. Taste is also a very well balance mix between some spicy peppery yeast with some notes white grapes and a strong semi-sweet malt backbone. Great carbonation with a full body and no apparent alcohol. I really enjoyed that one and definitely like it then most of the other offering.

This is a very hard beer to classify, and one of the most unique tasting I have ever come across. If I hadn't known that this was a beer I would have been convinced that it was a wine. My assumption is that this is a blonde ale aged in chardonnay barrels. Anyway, appearance is classic white wine. No head, glowing yellow. Smells of...chardonnay. Tastes of....chardonnay. Smooth, lingering finish. Bizarre, but nice.
