Light head comprised mainly of big bubbles which pop easily enough, very clear liquid, red with a zinc orange tint, no visible carbonation. Angular nose of pine resin, grasses, grains and orange pekoe tea offset some by caramel and mocha powder, kicks in there but then lost for words, no real flowers, citrus nor spice. Light to medium-bodied, initial burst of carbonation disappears swiftly. Corn syrup, caramel, unsweetened iced tea can be found among the hoppy herbaceousness. Here the cocoa, chocolate notes seem burnt, pan fried. Pine and something like coal tar shampoo. More mixed white citrus to add to the bite. Smooth enough finish, not much going down, however, nothing pissing you off. (Contract brewed by Thomas Creek Brewery)

Picked this up in Totowa yesterday, having never heard of this before and knowing nothing about Kind Beers at all. Even though this was listed as 7.30% ABV on here, the package said that this was at 6.0% and in addition, the label wasn't anything like the one pictured on here. A check of the website revealed that it's currently not up and running as well, so this still remained a mystery to me. With so many APA's out there, I was hoping that this would have stood out a bit more. If they were going for a muted, woodsy take on this style, then they hit the nail on the head with this one!

The pour to this was relatively basic, with a copper hue, moderate head, and lacing that could only be seen after the first few sips that I took of this. Not much of a hop presence to this and what was detectable had a somewhat earthy feel to it. The consistency was closer to one of the Innis and Gunn beers, as this was smooth, hardly carbonated, and felt like pine. Quite a bit of oil as well as this went down with a considerable amount of slickness, and it was only once this settled on my tongue that I could feel a slight hop burn, before it faded away toward a slightly more resinous feel.

I could hardly feel the booze in here either and the only lingering notes that stuck with me were those of leather and a slight earthy hoppiness. This wouldn't win any awards with anyone but for a slightly different take on a common style, this would suffice if you were stuck out in the woods and needed something to help out with getting away from it all!

Part of a mix-a-six I grabbed last week in South Carolina...
Bottle into nonic.

So a 7.3% ABV pale ale?! I can't wait. Pours a ruddy, rusty, and unappealing brown color. Thin film of tannish bubbles. Spotty lacing.

Smells piney. Perhaps some European hops used here providing a little dry spicy character? Some toffee and caramel with a dry toasty and roasty malt.
Mild bitterness, but a sticky sweet toffee-like finish is not working me.

Feels ok-- in fact, the feel is the best aspect of this beer; medium-light body with fair carbonation.

Overall-- meh. This is a pass. It isn't the word thing I've ever drank, but it's pretty low on the list when the category is pale ale (or even ipa due to the high ABV!).
