Our friend Pat Mcilhenney, owner and brewer at Alpine Beer Co., and his wife Val visited us in August of 2015 while on an East Coast vacation, so why not brew a beautiful, hoppy collaboration? This IPA is truly a collaboration of styles, techniques and philosophies—resulting in a harmonious, cross-country, hop-forward beer that could only be the product of true mutual admiration.

I had this on draft at HF in Oct of 2015. I just found this on some notes I had made. I am putting in some review numbers so I can keep a list on BeerA so I can find what I have had at HF. So this rating really doesn’t count if you read this.

From a 750ml growler, filled at the brewery two days ago. Served in an imperial pint pub glass.

Pours a thoroughly hazy amber-pear colour with three fingers of lumpy, lathery, cream-coloured head. Retention is excellent and leaves sticky, clumpy wads of lacing.

Moderately pungent nose of your tart tropical fruits, like kiwi, guava and lemon, honey, and funky, musky, sweaty sex. Tart, earthy, flowery.

Taste starts out similar to the nose but with prominent grapefruit juice and white grape skins along with the kiwi, guava and lemon. Tart, dank and... mmm, woodsy? a sort of musky, spicy character. Finishes with almost-medium bitterness and a slight mineral tang.

Feel is smooth and semi-juicy - a brand-new term, incidentally, which is simultaneously the opposite of and the same as semi-dry. Medium bodied and moderately-well carbonated.

Overall, a well-built, tasty beverage. Recommended.

Wow this is a superemely well balanced and delicate juicy IPA. Plenty of tangerine orange, grapefruit, lemon, peach, some nice piney and green notes that bring a mellow bitterness and bready malts dancing in the background. Excellent mouthfeel light/medium bodied with some slightly creamy texture.
