American Pale Ale (APA) |  5.20% ABV

Availability: Year-round

Notes/Commercial Description:
Edward (1917-2002) is our grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his five children. In his honor, this American Pale Ale is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Edward’s well. It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and dry hopped. Aromatic and flowery, with impressions of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Edward.

85 IBU

Pale and Caramel malt; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; House Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Date: 4/17/14
Location: Hill Farmstead Brewery
Glassware: Pint Glass
Appearance: Hazy golden wheat color. Fluffy white head that is large for a Pale Ale. Nice cascading as the beer is consumed and a short head remains on the beer throughout.
Aromatics: Lively citrus aromas. Loving some pineapple and mango scents. Some sweetener like honey. Grassy odors from the wheat.
Flavor: The hops resonate in the flavor adding a touch of bitterness to go with that smooth sweet and fruity flavor.
Mouthfeel: Silky smooth on the tongue. Light to Medium body with a very nice natural carbonation.
Notes: Bottled on 4/9/14 and drank on the suggest serve by date of 4/17/14. Served from a 2L HF growler.

Thanks to NickDrista for this!

750ml growler, filled about a week ago. Tulip glass.

A: Pours an orangish golden color, hazy, with a finger and a half of off-white head. The foam deflates slowly into a thick ring. A few streaks of lacing.

S: Well-balanced citrus and floral/herbal hops with lightly bread/biscuit/slightly sweet malt.

T: Similar, with the malt a little more prominent, slight mineral character, and finishing with a long, mild bitterness which slowly grows.

M: Slightly milky mouthfeel, medium body, medium-light soft carbonation.

O: Very drinkable, with subtle flavors and nice balance between hops and malt. That being said, there are probably half a dozen beers as good as this that I could buy off the shelf or trade for much more easily.

Poured from a Hill Farmstead growler I had filled at the brewery on 4/12/14.

A: Beautifully hazy, bright golden orange color with a thick white head that subsides leaving some nice lacing.
S: Orange/citrus and mild piney hops.
T: Follows the nose perfectly. Not a dank hop flavor and an easy drinker.
M: Great. Slight dryness to it.
O: Just another hit via the genius that is Hill Farmstead!

Fresh from the growler filled today. Always get Edward whenever I can on tap in vt, have never gotten a growler to bring home. Always overlook it because of the great double ipas. Poured in my HF tulip. Murky, bright gold, nice two finger head, sticks around for a bit. Great lacing on the glass. Smells so fresh. Juicy. Citrus mostly, small amount of grassy pine. The taste is very crisp. Lots of orange flavor upfront. Very light and refreshing. Nice hoppy aftertaste, but not huge. Makes this an easy drinker.

A-As Hill Farmstead should be served in a tulip glass. Beautiful golden color with a small head.

S-Fruity smell.

T-Amazing taste, blown away every time. Extremely flavorful and smooth.

M-Hard not to savor!

O-Edward is one of my favorite beers, but who am I kidding anything those guys do up on the farm is unbelievable!
