Abner (1867-1953) is our great grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his fourteen children. In his honor, this Double IPA is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Abner’s well. It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and double dry hopped. Aromatic and flowery, bursting with notes of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Abner.

170 Theoretical IBU

Pale and Caramel Malt; Dextrose; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Fresh from the brewery.

A. It has a thick, opaque yellow color with a big foamy white head and lots of lacing.

S. A lovely lemon, rye and wheat scent.

T/M. There's a nice, sweet citrus taste, with a bit of a lemon undertone. A slight bitterness, with a good rye feel in the back. Smooth and medium bodied. A bit of an apple peel.

O. Very complex and sweet, but not over the top. A great grassy flavor.

Thanks to Dr. Chris for getting me this special treat. Like many have been a huge IPA head for a long time, but have found this one to be elusive. Won't waste time with redundancy. Beer has been well described without yet another blow by blow from me. Having said that glass I drank had a wonderful fresh orange nose and taste. One that was not so much one of many characteristics of the beer... as it was a real definer and distinguisher from other IPAs that are more lemon/orange or grapefruit forward.

I also loved that it was so delicate. Don't get me wrong...this is a big beer. But it didn't bury your tongue. It didn't coat everything. It came and went with just aromas and flavors lingering... not the actual residue of the beer. Coming in at a less than 9% also makes it almost sessionable.

I'm trying to imagine coming home from work and just grabbing one of these as my end of day relaxer. Hmmm... wonder if wife is up for relocating?

Add my voice to the chorus...Bravo HF and thanks for the craftwork.
