Notes/Commercial Description:
Abner (1867-1953) is our great grandfather; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his fourteen children. In his honor, this Double IPA is dutifully crafted from American malted barley, a plethora of American hops, our ale yeast and water from Abner’s well. It is unfiltered, naturally carbonated, and double dry hopped. Aromatic and flowery, bursting with notes of citrus and pine, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Abner.

170 Theoretical IBU

Pale and Caramel Malt; Dextrose; Centennial, Chinook, Columbus, Simcoe, and Warrior hops; Ale Yeast, and our Well Water.

Very hazy and dark gold in colour, almost a little orange like an apricot.

Citrus and pine on the nose. Notes of sweet orange and tangerine-like flavours, and maybe some mango. Soft caramel malt throughout. The dry hops add amazing floral and somewhat grassy notes as well.

Tastes much like it smells, and goes down very smooth with little bitterness. Hops are more present than they are on the nose. The malt flavour is much more pronounced and lasts through the end, helping polish off much of the bitterness from the hops and disguising the high ABV.

The body is medium to thick, and has decent carbonation. A slight warming feeling going down is really the only indicator of the alcohol content.

I would be interested to see how this would be with slightly more malts. Had about seven people taste this last night - including a friend who drinks beer like Sam and PBR - and he even enjoyed it if that was any testament to how nearly perfect this beer is.

Amazing beer! This beer pours from a swingtop bottle with a cloudy gold/oragne color. Aromas consist of grapefruit hops and malts. This beer follows suit with taste and have pear hints. The aftertaste is a little bitter with hints of hops. Great IPA!

A - cloudy pale golden in color like a hazy sun on a hot day. 3 fingers worth of pearly white foam bubbles up quickly.

S - nose is earthy/herbal and juicy/fruity. Freshly juiced oranges. Tangerines. Grapefruit. Sticky pine needles. Freshly Pollenated flowers.

T - if i had to sum it up in one word. Grapefruit juice. But since i can expand... Crisp and cracker-y malt profile. Grapefruit rind dominates. Lemon zest. Green leafy herbs. Lots of pine. More tropical fruits on the backend. Tangerine with a touch of guava.

M - lighter side of medium bodied. Texture is smooth yet watery. Very resinous on the palate. To be objective a bit astringent but i did not find it to be detracting.

O - an exemplary double ipa. A massive hop bomb yet it just calls to be quaffed dispite its high alcohol content.
