Review from notes taken at Cigar City Brewing taproom on 7/15/12. Poured on draft into a Cigar City shaker pint glass.
Appearance: Pours a dark brown, almost black with a 1/2 finger light tan head. Decent lacing.
Smell: Roasted coffee, chocolate, toasted malt and white bread crust.
Taste: Milk chocolate, roasted malt and coffee throughout. Aftertaste is bitter coffee with a touch of sweet chocolate. Extremely well-balanced. Excellent flavor.
Mouthfeel: Medium-to-full-bodied with a decent amount of carbonation.
Drinkability: Excellent drinkability. I could drink this all day.
Overall: Excellent beer overall. Maybe the best porter (it's really close to a milk stout in my opinion) I've ever had. It's extremely well-balanced and smooth. I'd recommend trying this one if you get a chance. I hope I'm lucky enough to get some bottles of Everett at some point.

Poured from a 750 mL growler into a HF stemmed tulip. The growler was obtained on 3/01/2014 from the brewery, and consumed on 3/03.
A- Jet black with a molasses brown hue at the edge of the glass. The small tan head from the pour recedes quickly, leaving minimal lacing. This is a beautiful beer and hits all of the visual cues that my brain is looking for in a porter. I suppose a tiny bit more head/lacing could make this a perfect 5, but I'm reaching here!
O- Wow. Just absolutely wonderful on all accounts. Fresh malted barley with a beautiful medium roast. Neither overwhelming nor faint, this one is just right. It's hard to imagine a better smelling porter.
T- Up front, it's pure malty, roasty goodness. As the mild sweetness fades, the coffee flavor starts to pick up, reaching a quite lovely combination of malt and mocha. Coffee dominates the finish, bringing on a satisfying light bitter quality that makes you crave another sip.
M - Silky smooth, this beer is not as heavy as I expected. There's minimal carbonation, yet it still feels light on the tongue. It's a bit surprising, as its not as syrupy as I expected, nor as dry. The alcohol is quite well hidden, as is the case with most HF beers.
O - Simply the best porter I have ever had. Absolutely astounding purity. I've had this on tap and from a growler, and it did not disappoint. If you are a fan of porters, I highly recommend you seek this out!

On tap at Prohibition Pig. Just an exceptional beer. It's been a long, long time since I rated a beer this highly.
In a tulip the beer was black. There was a small, café au lait colored head with a smattering of lace.
Aroma of chocolate, cocoa, coffee, roasted malt.
Complex taste. One minute I'm tasting sweet chocolate, the next minute dark chocolate, then espresso.
A wonderful combination of bitter and sweet. Medium-bodied.
I could drink this forever.

Pours a dark brown from the growler, black in the glass. Beautiful lacing from a nice head for the style, very dark brown with good retention.
Aroma is of coffee beans, barley, dark malts, and cream. Not a particularly complex or overpowering nose, but nice and relaxing.
Taste follows the nose, highlighting big coffee notes, a sweet creaminess, a hint of grape-like booze, dark malts, dark fruit, earthy hop bitterness, and chewy wheat.
In a lot of stouts and porters with a full mouthfeel, "chewy" is the nom de jour typically sought after; here, "creamy" seems so much more appropriate. Full, robust, creamy, luscious; pick your favorite. I can't imagine improving on the mouthfeel.
Interestingly, I like this beer anywhere from refrigerator to cellar temperature; once it warms to room temperature, the bitterness and coffee flavor become a little too dominant for my tastes, and you lose out on the delicious creaminess.
