Huge expectations for this beer because New Zealand hops are my favorite at the moment. Super cloudy, bright golden yellow with a massive bleach white head that's soapy, sticky, and tall leaving behind great last and retention. The nose and flavor are all massive NZ hops. Sticky resin, bright tropical fruit, pungent earth and pine. Delicious hops cling to the palate and don't let go. Finish is incredible, although slightly chalky and cloying after a few glasses. Another incredible PA from HF.

On tap poured into an ommegang tulip.

Pours a very nice slightly hazy orange color that's really nice. Small light yellow head with some awesome clingy lacing. Nose is odd, these hops are earthy and a bit funky.

Taste is sweet, bitter, fruity and it still has that funky earthy flavor from the nose. It's got a fairly light mouthfeel, it's easy drinking and quite tasty. Overall pretty good showcase of the Nelson hops!

thanks to joe for hooking me up with this growler

A: Cloudy amber color with a faint tannish color head that is only about a quarter inch thick but leaves very nice gobs of weblike lace.

S: Nice citrus pine note with hints of apricot, lemon, pineapple, and mango. there is also a sticky pine note. Minimal amounts of caramel sweetness present in this hop forward IPA. Some floral notes and a hint of earthiness

T: Heavy pine and lemon citrus is the first flavor follow by a slight scallion note. Bits of caramel present. The pine is sticky and oily. The scallion/earthy tone to this one is a bit off putting. its not terrible but it over took the citrus a little bit

M: Very smooth with not harshness and light but with a good amount of body. No heat and good creaminess

D: This one goes down very easily and has all the qualities i usually look for in a IPA. the only complaint i have is that the citrus got overshadowed a bit otherwise this is a great brew!

750 mL growler poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy bright yellow orange. Nice white head. Laces nicely. Uneven chunky foam on the surface.

Smell - Tons of nelson hops. Grapefruit, herbal notes, pine, and some lemon. Very distinctive. Touch of grain but it's a hop bomb.

Taste - All hop here again. Great hop flavor. Herbal notes and lemon are stronger. The grapefruit comes second. Drops off to a clean pale malt and grainy finish. Dry.

Mouthfeel - Light, medium carbonation. Extremely drinkable.

Overall - This gives Zombie Dust a run for its money. I'd take this over so many beers and drink it all day.

Poured from a 750ml flip-top growler into a stemmed tulip glass (Filled Aug 2; Poured Aug 7).

A: A hazy straw color (an unfiltered beer so haze is expected); A big frothy white head (2-3 fingers) slowly settling leaving lots of lace.

S: A nice hoppy nose, citrus includes orange and grapefruit, pine needles, but those NZ hops are so prevalent and I have a hard time describing them: a bit woody (cedar?) or winey, a touch of the barnyard funk, slightly vegetal (cauliflower?).

T: Soft on the palate relative to some of the more aggressive hopped ales (e.g., Edward); again the NZ hops are there in full force: a winey oaky/cedar wood, grapey or woodzy, the barnyard funk is in the back. The finish is very short, clean and dry.

M: Very smooth and clean with medium body and carbonation.

O: A very good beer and very well balanced. This is my first experience with a Nelson Sauvin single hopped beer; it is so different and really exciting as it sets this beer apart in a market saturated with other pale ales. This beer is definitely hop driven but not overly pungent or bitter, really nice.

A-Very cloudy bright yellow, two finger head, very fluffy with great lacing.

S-Suck dank tropical notes, lemon orange, grass and some malt.

T-What balance. Starts with very tropical notes, lemon, orange, grapes, grass and some malt. Has a pleasant bitterness in the finish.

M-Tad lighter, but nicely carbonated with hop bite.

O-Nelson hops are amazing. Great way to showcase them.

enjoyed on-tap at The Reservoir in Waterbury, VT.

a: served in a hill farmstead pint glass. hazy light orange in color with a pretty thin head that sticks for a long time.

s: noticeable citrus hop character in the aroma. not much malt to speak of.

t: citrus hop flavor dominates the flavor with a subtle piney bitterness. deliciously hoppy, yet not too unbalanced thanks to the subtle malt sweetness.

m: smooth mouthfeel.

quite a delicious beer. i now see why Hill Farmstead is so highly regarded.
