Notes/Commercial Description:
Arthur (1922-2005) was our grandfather’s youngest brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Saison is crafted from American malted barley, American and European hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Arthur.

750ml bought at the brewery a month or two ago. Split with the Honey. Bottle dated 5-2014.

Appearance - Poured into a Russian River stemmed glass. Color is hazy golden yellow, plenty of carbonation bubbles, white head retains well and leaves excellent lacing.

Smell - Great farmy yeast, lemon, tart citrusy fruits, grain, light funky cheese and oak.

Taste - Maybe slightly less potent than the scent but still very nice. Farm, light sweaty funk, bretty tones, lemon, pineapple, pear, generally citrusy. Big yeasty grainy bready presence. Touch of herbal hop. Oaky vanilla.

Mouthfeel - What you should be looking for in a saison: Light, zesty carbonation, crisp, light-medium tartness, refreshing and very drinkable. Kinda flemmy.

Overall - Great, some nice gueuze-like qualities but still a saison at heart. Good balance of flavors and solid all around. Probably one of the better Belgian-style ales from HF for me.

Sampled from a 750ml bottle acquired in a trade. Date was 05 2014.

A - Light golden with great clarity and a big white head of small, medium and large bubbles. A steady rise of bubbles from the base of the glass. Very lively. And great lacing as it empties.

S - Lemon, green apple and funk.

T - Quite tart with nice fruit flavors, especially lemon, and layers of funk. A fantastic mix! There's so much to explore as you drink this beer.

M - Very effervescent and lively. The perfect delivery mechanism for these flavors.

O - Wow! What a beer! Great stuff HF!

Poured from a bottle of this years batch 2, into a modified tulip glass.

A - Lemon yellow sun, crisp carbonation, delicate lacing follows a solid egg white head. Lacing lasts forever.
S - Fresh hay, lemon, white pepper, a touch of leather as the glass warms. A trail to be followed, without any signs.
T - Fine snap. Lemon grass, notes of melon, a gentle sourness that balances out.
M - Carbonation leaves a clean feel, tight body dances across the palate, salinity and fresh floral leave a fabulous finish.
O - Easily a favorite of the style. The crispness, cleanliness, and delicate profile elements create a treat to be experienced.

Cheers
