Arthur (1922-2005) was our grandfather’s youngest brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Saison is crafted from American malted barley, American and European hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Arthur.

I enjoyed this at a recent tasting I hosted poured chilled from the 750ml into a tulip shared with tenderbranson and abru17.

The color is clear golden with thick white frothy head with fine bead. This saison smells the way I expect a good saison to-mostly yeast however there is a nice malt aroma that underscores with an earthy spice from the hops. This has a great feel -smooth body yet not overly sweet -very dry actually with moderate carbonation and softness from the water perhaps?

This is a very subtle yet sophistocated saison mostly malt yet there is a nice spice element that nods toward noble hop flavor with yeast adding a core structure that flavors as well as enhances the overall quality of the beer from initial taste with some light citrus coming through until the malt accentuated toasty finish. Overall I could not be happier after having this at the Hill farmstead anniversary this was a delight to share with friends in bottle format. (957 characters)

Nice creamy 1 finger head fades at a med pace with lots of lacing, very hazy golden creamy yellow color.

Nose a bit yeasty, light lemony zest, light citrusy, dry rustic malts and wheat, farmhouse earthy aroma, touch of spices

Taste is very saison, dry rustic earthy farmhouse, light creamy malts, little yeasty, light lemony citrus fruit and zest, dry bready malts, light wheat like, lots of carbonation, little creamy and light spices, bit of bitterness and hint of tannins. Finishes even more bitter, light floral grassy hops, pretty dry, more farmhouse rustic malt flavors.

Mouth is med bodied, good carb.

Overall nice, great flavors, right on for saison, nice hops that come late, dry finish, good carb, nice farmhouse flavors, very light spices, and a nice lemony citrus flavor. (787 characters)

Poured from a 750mL bottle into a Hill Farmstead stemmed glass. Purchased at the brewery in November.

Pours a super hazy, pale yellow body with a big gushing frothy white head that reduces slowly to leave some lacing a decent, uneven white retention that sits for a while. Some sediment.

Aroma is super inviting with big fruity and tart aromas, namely tart citrus, lemon, and green apple mixed with banana-clove, peppery spices, farmhouse funk.

Taste is equally as complex, upfront is tart citrus but not overpoweringly sour, saison yeastyness & barnhouse funk, estery banana, a creamy caramel, with a spicy, peppery, and slightly bitter finish. Super complex. Excellently balanced. Easy to drink with a medium body and medium carbonation. Very refreshing.

Overall a world class Saison, super complex, balanced, and tasty. I expect nothing less from Hill Farmstead. (873 characters)

Received this in trade a few weeks back. I noticed the bottling date was from January of last year, still this one has held up very well, perhaps even better than it was fresh? Although there was no noticeable off flavors at all. Very well crafted beer.

Appearance: Light golden honey colored with a large amount of delicate white head.

Aroma: Tartness is the dominant aroma some sweetness in there as well. Very much a Belgian style ale.

Taste: Tart, citrus fruits and a little bitterness pretty complex, yet mild as well. Very clean finishing and truly enjoyable.

Overall: This is my first Hill Farmstead beer and I am amazed at how well crafted it truly is, if I had not just ran across the date I would never have been able to tell that it had over a year of age on the bottle. Super beer! I hope this is the first of many opportunities. (848 characters)

Has all the things you'd want in a saison. Lemon and citrus notes that are perfect on a hot summer day. Tastes like it has a bit of funky sour going on too. Highly recommended. (176 characters)

Pours a deep gold with a thick quickly dissipating head. Good lacing. Faint pepper and biscuit on the nose with some dry white wine notes following. Dry on the tongue, very spicy with lots of pepper. Dry finish as well. Light bodied with good carbonation. Overall, a supremely well crafted and easy drinking farmhouse ale. (322 characters)

A very good, easy drinking saison. Tart, slightly funky yeast and somewhat musty. (82 characters)
