Arthur (1922-2005) was our grandfather’s youngest brother; Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings. In his honor, this Saison is crafted from American malted barley, American and European hops, our distinctive farmhouse yeast and water from our well. Unfiltered and naturally carbonated, this is the ale that I dream to have shared with Arthur.

Poured from a bottle of this years batch 2, into a modified tulip glass.

A - Lemon yellow sun, crisp carbonation, delicate lacing follows a solid egg white head. Lacing lasts forever.
S - Fresh hay, lemon, white pepper, a touch of leather as the glass warms. A trail to be followed, without any signs.
T - Fine snap. Lemon grass, notes of melon, a gentle sourness that balances out.
M - Carbonation leaves a clean feel, tight body dances across the palate, salinity and fresh floral leave a fabulous finish.
O - Easily a favorite of the style. The crispness, cleanliness, and delicate profile elements create a treat to be experienced.

Courtesy of Ineedabeerhere (thanks Joe!). Bottled 05/2014. 750ml bottled served in a tulip. Pours a translucent straw-gold with a fizzy, 2.5 inch bright white head that sizzles and pops as it slowly recedes into a soapy slick. A thick band of lacing encircles half the bowl of the glass and lingers between quaffs. Nose is slightly grassy and suggests green apple, a slight lemony quality and a suggestion of spice. Taste is biscuity and lemony and the green apple quality is present, but less so than in the nose; something of a Berliner-Weisse character in the flavor profile in my opinion. Mouthfeel is light in body with a bright carbonation that tickles the tongue and a slight astringency that stimulates the salivary glands. Overall, a decent farmhouse but a bit too clean for my general sensibilities. Well worth a try if the opportunity presents.
