Despite having been filled three days before, and mostly consumed by others in the previous two days, the beer still had a semblance of a head, with enough carbonation to keep a thin ring around the edge supplied.
Coffee and chocolate are evident in the aroma, with hints of anise and vanilla.
A mouthful of the porter delivers sweet vanilla flavor in the middle of the rich coffee and roasted malts with a slightly bittersweet, dark chocolate aftertaste. Balanced by select hop additions and muted carbonation, the overall taste is meaty, with good depth of character.
Excellent brew for winter consumption. Almost too rich for dinner, a porter for pleasure.
Serving type: growler
