Hill Farmstead Brewery / Everett American porter aged in bourbon barrels . Batch 3 (26-plus months aged) . Bottled in May, 2014.

Got this as a gift from my mother while she was in Vermont . Huge thanks to her ! This is the batch 3 Everett aged in Bourbon barrels for 26-plus months. Super hard to get and very happy to try this .

Pour : Poured into a Hill Farmstead wine Snifter glass . It pours thick from the glass , the color is a deep dark brown , not motor oil black like a Russian imperial , but a see a little bit of brown below the lacing . The head is a rich mocha brown , with a medium high amount of carbonation with little bubbles . The lacing is sticking , but not a full stick on the glass .

Aroma : A big roasted oak character on this one . Not over powering bourbon , but wow is this complex for a porter. I get the smoked character of the Non barrel Everett , but it's more subtle in this version . Vanilla , toffee , dark fruits like raisin , and plum . Also some coffee notes as well as milk chocolate , but the bourbon is so nice ! A little cherry oak as well . Like something you would smell in Jim Beam.

Taste : Yeah this is a whole other animal . It really tastes like sipping on a smooth bourbon with chocolate and vanilla . Also a very nice smokey taste that warms up into dark fruits , a touch of coffee , milk chocolate , and a little bit of lactose . It's very drinkable !

Mouthfeel: medium , the bourbon coats the back palate , as well as making the flavors spiced up a notch . It's creamy , but packs a punch .

Verdict : 4.5/5 . Drinking it somewhat fresh is great , but aging it might make this a touch smoother , but it's a great beer and am super lucky to try this ! Cheers .
