Latest batch into HF wine stem.
Appearance is hazy, straw gold, with fluffy white head. Again that beautiful lacing typical with HF saisons is left on the sides of the glass. She's pretty for sure.
Aroma is of classic saison yeast with faint whipped butter and vague but present honey sweetness. Banana, soft clove, peach fuzz, orange pith, mellow pasture, and a vinous presence akin to white grape flesh. Balanced, mouth watering, quite bright.
Then comes the first taste... Wow. All of a sudden Brett shows up and asserts it's presence. An underlying tartness also grasps your attention giving the impressions of lime juice, lemon pulp, and tangerine. But those flavors are not dominant as vinous white wine essence, raw honey, refined wheat cracker, the greenest grass, and flickers of overripe pineapple round out the exquisite flavor of this masterpiece. Could there be some lacto presence in this? Unless it was the work of Brett but I continue to be dumbfounded by the way Hill Farmstead gets that lovely tartness in their "standard" saisons.
The body is light, carbonation quite perfect as usual, and the finish is tart and sweet enough to balance out. While still gives the impression of being a dry beer from the linger on the finish, this is certainly one of the sweeter saisons I've had from the Hill Farnstead portfolio.
Quite the accomplishment with this one. Love the honey sweetness changing it up. The tartness balances it out beautifully. Complexity is not over the top but the sheer mastery that Shaun reigns in this style category shows up all over Anna. A beer to drink now, and one I suspect well age graciously over the course of a few years. Stoked to sit on some and revisit in two years or so.
