A couple of samples at Extreme Beer Fest 2011.

Pours a opaque, dark chocolate brown with a thin, wispy mocha head. Aggressive nose of roast coffee, cream, dark chocolate, light vanilla. Surprisingly little booze or burnt notes, smells like Earl on steroids. Dark and roasty flavor, obviously dominated by roasted coffee and dark malts and nice transition from sweet to bitter throughout into the finish. Silky and decadent texture and again, very little presence of booze. Was in my top 3 looking forward to at the fest, and it delivered.

Reviewed from notes. Draft at Extreme Beer Fest 2011.

Pour yields a fairly dark brown bodied brew with a very thin tan head that falls into a few spots. The nose is quite pungent, though none of that comes from booze, as you may expect from a 15% beer. There are really strong coffee notes plus a good amount of cream and light roast. Mild chocolate there as well. The taste is a beautiful espresso plus some whipped cream and moderate roast. Smooth chocolate in the background and only the faintest hint of alcohol. Really delicious. Body is medium to full with slight alcohol and a coffee bitterness. Really solid; one of the better coffee beers I’ve had and one of the best iced beers I’ve come across.

As dark of a brown as I have ever seen, you can't even see thru it. Head was a dense mocha crown.

The aroma was pure coffee.

The taste was the blackest, richest coffe I ever done drank. Even after letting it warm in my hands the alchol barely peeked thru.

Considering the high abv this was way too drinkable.

This ain't your mommas coffee beer, but dad gonna enjoy her after she drinks it.

This beer pours a pitch black color with a small brown head into my glass.

The aroma contains roasted coffee and cocoa notes. Much like Earl.

Rich coffee notes greet the mouth, followed by cocoa, dark fruit and a definite alcohol warmth/bite.

Mouthfeel is full of lingering warmth. Very nice on this cold day. You would not know it was 15%+ if you did not read the description.

An excellent coffee stout on ice (literally). Very impressive.

On-tap at the Hill Farmstead Winter Festival. I believe this is an eis'd version of Earl that was brewed specifically for the festival.

Pours a beautiful dark brown with a thin film of creamy tan head. No lacing left behind.

Well roasted coffee, vanilla and chocolate rise up from the glass. Dark malts and just a hint of alcohol. The coffee aroma is nice and smooth without any burnt notes.

Coffee, caramel, vanilla and dark roasty malts wash across the tongue. Dessert sweetness upfront, but the beer finishes with a nice wave of smooth coffee bitterness to balance things out. One word: delicious!

The mouthfeel is creamy, silky and exceptionally smooth. Awesome body. Almost thick, but not quite. There is almost no trace of alcohol. I can't believe how well masked it is.

For a 15% eis-stout this is dangerously drinkable. Lots of rich flavors, an extremely smooth body and almost no sign of booze. I really hope Shaun decides to give this project another go in the future. I would love to get this in bottles.
