Notes/Commercial Description:
E is definitely not a Belgian IPA - it's a funky version of Edward (american pale ale) - fermented with brettanomyces, dry hopped with galaxy, and aged on stainless for four months. Basically, we refer to it as a farmhouse pale ale - a cross between a saison and an american pale.

2012 Release: Aged in Mimosa barrels.
2014 Release: Aged in wine barrels with resident yeast and microfloa for 1.5 years.

Pours with a huge soapy eggshell head. Recedes fairly fast-ish with some splotchy lacing. Nice glowing honey blossom orange color, really nice color. The aroma is simply insane. Citrus, pithy orange, bright grapefruit. The ability to marry the fruityness of hops, fruit from the mimosa barrel and tropical aromas of brett is so impressive. The brett here really takes on its tropical quality. Below this is hay and well yeah a little manure. Flavor pops with citrusy hops, and earthy, earthy yeast flavor. Some more of that pithy orange / grapefruit pops in here. Scouring, scrubby mouthfeel. Terrific. This is the 2nd hill farmstead beer I've had. The 1st was a little bit of a let down, this beer made up for it in spades. Top shelf.

Bottle thanks to Urbancaver. Hazy golden pour with kick-ass lacing. Aroma is definitly hoppy, very funky (lots of bretts). You can also feel the white wine barrel. More bitter than expected crushed by funky bretts and a splash of citrus. On top of it, bready malts for taming purposes. Full bodied with lively carbonation. This is a multilayered masterpiece by Shaun, once again succeeding in incorporating many different flavors harmoniously.

Thanks to Shaun E. for this bottle.

E. pours a clear light orange color into the HFB tulip with a thick frothy head that builds into a solid 2 finger meringue. Beautiful. The cloudy head settles into a sticky lace the fringes the top of the beer, settling in corners and creeping up the glass.

Aroma is verdant, grassy and straw-like; rich apricot notes, slightly floral and wonderfully rosey. A great enticing nose that is brett forward and fresh.

The taste starts with a balance of the brett, farmhouse character and fruity hop notes. This builds to a modest citrusy twang and settles to a nice aromatic bitterness that's balanced by light bodied malt sweetness.

This beer provides significant flavor and complexity within a delicate body. The carbonation is soft, effervescent and refreshing.

A unique style-blended beer for Hill Farmstead, and one that is a much appreciated nod to both the Belgian and American inspiration of this brewery.

I can't thank you enough, leschkie... I owe you for this one...

A: Pours a hazy golden peach with a massive, foamy, pure white head. It takes forever for the head to dissipate, but it's just building suspense. This beer looks delicious.

S: It also smells super delicious. The nose is packed full of earthy grains, Beglian yeasts, roses, camomile, oranges, lemons, and clove. It's unreal. I don't know if this beer is brett based, but it sure smells like it.

T: Damn. It starts off with huge hits of juicy orange, and other various citrus. The spice picks up in the middle where the clove and floral notes begin to really shine. Once the beer hits the back of the palate it's full-on yeasty funk and bitters. I'm actually a little blown away by how bitter it is in the back end.

M: Medium bodied beer. It's wet and juicy to start, but it ends extremely dry. I don't think I've ever had a beer with such a huge transition in mouthfeel. This is a highly drinkable beer, but it's something you'll be sipping and savoring.

O: Excellent brew. The nose is my favorite part of the beer, and it's damn delicious. I would drink this again in a heartbeat.
