George was our grandfather’s brother, and Hill Farmstead Brewery rests upon the land that was once home to him and his 13 siblings.

George is our American Brown Ale. Hopped, rightfully so, with Centennial, Cascade, and a touch of Columbus…

Half pour at Pizza Boy. Dark brown pour, silky off-white head, lacing. Light roasty aroma with notes of chocolate. Taste brings a nice light bitter, roasty bite, burnt toast, chocolate, coffee. Smooth, world class.

Canned on 12/29/2022; consumed on 2/23/2023

Pours a ruddy chestnut hue with subtle maroon accents and capped with multiple fingers of rich, fluffy, off-beige foam; good head retention yields a rocky layer of cap, slim, frothy collar, and a multitude of chunky rings of webby lacing encircling the walls of the glass.

Aromas of walnut husks and malt char ease to a milk chocolate silk interwoven across the bouquet, with a dark fruit inflection throughout phasing to shreds of caramel on the back end.

Taste offers black toast and hints of milk chocolate upfront soon ceding to tones of burnt coffee grounds through the mid-palate as a healthy char lingers onward through the finish.

Mouthfeel brings a body on the lighter end of medium sporting a silky frothy of moderate-full carbonation; definitively pillowy textures peak to a creamy mid-palate as residual bittering lingers to a prickly char culminating on a drying finish.

Latent silk meets extensive, lasting char while a sweeter subtlety persists as a quiet form of mediation; at its intermittent highest points, this is the apex of what can be expected of the American Brown Ale style.

On tap at Sabatinis in Exeter pa earlier this afternoon.

Looks very good. Dark body with reddish highlights. Small off white head shrinks to a ring and covering, rings of lacing.

Strong roasted malt aroma.

On tasting, comes off more of a stout or black ipa than a brown ale. Hardly any sweetness. Good honest roast does battle with the hop bitterness. Some coffee notes.

Mouth between medium and full, finish a dry bitter roast.

Overall, as a brown, not enough sweet malt. Drink itself is quite enjoyable.
