Served in a 10oz snifter for $6.50
Sampled 07JUL12

[A] Arrives with a bright white finger of fluffy foamy head resting above an orange creamcicle colored body. Light orange with a pale white softness. Opaque as all of Shaun's IPAs are. Lacing in thin sedimentary layers, connected every so often by a few craggily strands.

[S] Bitter orange and white grapefruit. Non-descript malt bill. High gravity is evident but not offensive. Straightforward.

[T] Bright citrus flavored hops with near bracing bitterness. Fleeting melon-like flavors poke thru every once in a while on the finish. Spiked honeydew and cantaloupe.

[M] Creamy smooth initially with a firm persistent carbonation immediately after - and thru to the finish. Semi-fine and moderately coarse. Medium body, leans dry.

[O] Man, the grading curve sure is tough for Hill Farmstead IPAs... To put it into perspective: Nor is probably better than 98% of DIPAs out there - but it doesnt even make Top 5 hop-centric beers in Hill Farmstead's portfolio.

Enjoyed on tap at the Black Back pub. Cloudy grapefruit coloured body. Apparently with rice and Brett. A good mouthfeel. Lots of orange citrusy taste. Some tropcal fruit.Very smooth drinker. Complex and good drinkability. I would like to try it again.

375ml growler courtesy of JeepCop. Poured into a snifter.

4.0 A: Opaque brownish yellow color. Two and a half fingers of white, pillowy/creamy head. Retention is good and a decent amount of lacing is left.

4.0 S: This has a raw, fresh hop vibe in the nose. It smells like I've shoving my face in some hops right before throwing them into the boil. Primarily floral with earthy and grassy secondary. Yeasty with bready malts. Very nice.

4.0 T: Tastes like it smells. Raw, resiny hops that focus on floral, earthy, and grassy flavors. Moderate yeasty breadiness. Very light sugariness. Light bitterness. I'd prefer this to be a bit cleaner and less yeasty, but it's still pretty good.

3.5 M: Heavier medium to heavy body. Good carbonation, especially from a growler. Reasonably creamy. The thing that I'm not a fan of is that this is a bit too chewy for my liking.

4.0 D: Another more than solid beer from HF. This has a lot of the things that I don't like in a DIPA (big yeasty breadiness, chewy mouthfeel) and still manages to get a good score out of me.

On tap at Tria Rittenhouse in Philly on 7/13/12. Served in a tulip.

Pour: Hazy straw orange with two fingers of white head.

Smell: Grapefruit and pine burst out. Very inviting.

Taste: Piney and citrusy with a light bready maltiness. Peppery on the finish.

Mouthfeel: Very juicy and not overly bitter. Rice adds a great dry aspect on the finish that leaves you craving another sip.

Overall: Great collab from Cigar City and Hill Farmstead. Delicous

On tap at Willard's Tap House. Served in a Unibroue tulip.

Appearance - Very hazy orange. Nearly completely opaque. Nice fluffy white head that leaves some lovely lacing.

Smell - Tropical fruit hop aroma. Floral, too. Hefty sweet malt aroma as well.

Taste - Juicy tropical fruits. Orange and mango. Sugary malts back it up. Maybe a touch too sweet. Bitter finish.

Mouthfeel - A bit heavy. Just a bit too sweet and just a bit too bitter. Otherwise, quite nice.

Overall - A tasty treat to find in Florida. Maybe not Hill Farmstead's best IPA, but better than nearly everything down here.

Colaboration time

A-Pours a translucent yet glowing honey hue. Big, fluffed white head that retains its girth exceptionally well. Leaves heaps of lacing. Looks big and bold.

S-The beer's aromatics are not stunning but the are quite pleasing. Not a high intensity aroma. I get a nice amount of fruity hops and grains. Smells pretty balanced too. Malt is sturdy and displays heavy notes of biscuit and dough.

T-Plentiful amounts of citrus and tropical fruits. Bitterness is semi-subtle, especially for a Hill Farmstead brew. Well balanced and not overly coercive. Malts really balance this one out.

M-Creamy for a DIPA. Displays a strong resinous and syrupy quality. Medium bitterness.

O/D-A very nice DIPA but it maybe my least favorite Hill Farmstead affiliated hoppy beer I have tried. Still phenomenal, but a bit too relaxed. That being said, it still beats 90%of the DIPAs I can readily buy...Maybe 95% of them.
