Pours a nice hazy yellow gold with a half finger of quickly disapating head that laces all the way down. Faint citrus aroma with matching taste...mostly tangerine. Smooth feel with nice tingle at the ebd. Nice !!!

On-tap at Arrogant Swine, Brooklyn, NY

A: The beer is hazy golden yellow in color. It poured with a half finger high white head that left lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Light aromas of citrusy hops are present in the nose—tangerines seem to stand out in particular.
T: Following the smell, the taste has flavors of tangerine citrus and a light amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation. No crispness is perceptible.
O: This beer is very easy to drink for an Imperial IPA as the alcohol is well masked from the taste.

On-tap at Armsby Abbey in Worcester, MA. My initial excitement was quickly replaced with disappointment. A very underwhelming brew. Still very good, but seemed very one-dimensional and had some strange raw meat aromas and metallic flavors. I had a glass of What Is Enlightenment? beforehand which was much, much better. I've had many other S&S versions and this one just doesn't seem to be on the same level. Oh well.

On draft at Armsby Abbey.

Pours a light hazy yellow with nice finger of foam. Great lacing.
Some floral hops upfront with a good amount of orange and citrus on the nose.
Hops again up front but lots of fruit follow through quickly, not a juice bomb, but a well done I PA

Pour is a little darker than the standard hf ipa. Medium amber with the standard heavy haze and a tight white head. Nose has an assertive spice, oily hop, notes of citrus, moderate earthiness malt balance. Taste has a fair bit of the grain bill right up front, earthy malt, citrus comes in and gets a touch oily in the hop flavor. Spice lingers around the finish. Citrus and a hint of floral hop give an added punch as it warms. Body is light, really soft feel, moderate carb, dry but still a long finish.

750ml growler filled yesterday.

A: Pours a hazy gold with a very tall, very frothy off-white head. Great head retention and heavy sheets of lacing everywhere.

S: Very flowery. Almost like lavender. Some orange blossom when swirled.

T: Sweet candied oranges up front. Lots of that lavender mixing in, especially in the middle. Bready malt stands out pretty well. More flowery hops rounding it out and lingering forever. A bit resinous and surprisingly a bit boozy to boot. Get a hint of pine in between sips sometimes.

M: Medium bodied, lightly harsh aftertaste.

O: Very floral IPA for sure. At times I envisioned drinking soap. Tasty but a little bit unbalanced and I'm not a huge fan of the floral hops usually so I scored this one in line with that.

Was expecting better from Hill Farmstead, some lemon, good deal of wheat. Nice hops but HF is usually better. Maybe some orange and grapefruit. There are better HF IPAs out there.

Pours golden straw, not much of a head from the tap. Not much on the nose, slightly sweet, citrusy. Taste is biscuit, pepper, citrus. A little boozy in my opinion. Decent lighter carbonation, substantial bite mouthfeel.

On growler from the brewery, after waiting in line for 3 hours and dropping about $200, this is the prixe I received, not sure I'm that happy about it, great IPA but not as great as some of their other offerings.

Tap at Abbey

Big foamy 1+ finger creamy rich head fades slowly with tons of layered thick lacing, murky golden honey color.

Nose juicy hops, citrus orange, tangerine, little mango rind, hint of resinous musty passion fruit, melon rind, tropical fruit must and citrus pith, with hint of toasted grainy malt.

Taste starts with a mild sweet malt, candy toasted malt, mild sweetness with a hint of booze tickle. Then big hops, more bitter than I expected, spicy notes, big orange rind and pith, some musty dank hop notes, big candied fruit candied apricot and orange peel, hint passion fruit guava thing. Finish is a bit sticky, mild dry, hint of booze, quite bitter, lingering candied apricot orange peel thing and nice mild resin and spicy like hops, long lingering bitterness.

Mouth is med to a bit bigger bod, nice fluffy carb.

Overall decent, other ones are better, bit too much malt sweet candy profile, too bitter and sticky feeling, but still enjoyable.

The beer offers grapefruit, floral, spicy, a biscuity malt in the middle. The finish comes with grapefruit peel, a good drying with some piney bitterness.

A really wonderful showcasing of the possibilities of Cascade and an underrated Society & Solitude.

Poured on tap at Mad Taco.

Golden small orange to deep yellow body, quite opaque not totally though, with a rising creamy one finger head. Excellent spotted and cascading sheets of lace while drinking, and some minimal carbonation. Very nice looking IPA.

Aroma doesn't deliver much, but some light sweet biscuit and soft hop. Very indistinct, really cant pinpoint or determine and angle, slightly floral but very small if hardly noticeable. Decent but burried.

Palate finally awakens with much grandeur. Litteraly liquid hop juice with big notes of pine and tropical fruit. Mouthfeel follows big and bold, with great juicy tones, treacle like syrup feel which also seems to accent some sweetness on the palate really nicely. Very clean finish, and lingering hop controlled bitterness on the aftertaste.

Another very solid IPA from Hill Farmstead. Quite a surprise thought this was going to be a dud, but hardly is for me.

This one was a bit stickier, sweeter, and with more of a thick humidity of tropical citrus and orange than any other Hill Farmstead beer I've had. Definitely a departure, but they nailed it.

This is one of the few HF beers, especially hoppy beers that disappointed me. Had it very fresh, but there was a significant lack of hoppy smell or taste. Perhaps it is that I don't care for Cascade hops.

On tap. Poured a pale orange color. Medium sized head. Aroma is perhaps the most concentrated amount of Cascade hops I have ever come across. A pungent mixture of pine, florals, citrus and grass. Über-West Coast hop profile that is much different than most of Hill's hoppy beers. First sip is a knife chop of Cascade delivered directly to my throat. Pine, grass, grapefruit and flowers. That pale, doughy Hill Farmstead malt again and again supports all those hops. Powerful flavor. Resinous feel. Resins! Fuller bodied. My third Spciety & Solitude. My least favorite but you can tell the craftsmanship is there.

Poured from a growler. Pours a gorgeous hazy light orange color that radiates like the sum. Smells so damn juicy and hoppy. Peaches, oranges, malt sweetness and hops. Taste follows suit. Holy damn. This is top 3 ipas next to julius and focal banger. Like a hoppy fruit gusher. Taste explodes on the palate of orange, pineapple, peaches, hops and a sweet bready malt. So dangerous for the abv. Just creamy and juicy. Perfect ipa.

On tap at the brewery. Pretty sure I had this before, but got to sample the latest batch the other day. Golden pour, mostly clear, with a thin white head. Fruity aroma, citrus mainly, straw, grassy, sweet grains. Oily hop resin in the taste--citrus, pine, perfume--strong malt base, with a neutral alcohol zing. Not as crisp as other HF offerings, somewhat sticky. About right for a typical DIPA, but just not one of my favorites from "the Hill."

Enjoyed at the Dive bar.

A - Poured into a standard tulip a semi clear golden hue with a fat white blanket that fades to leave super dense lacing.

S - Aromas of nice soft floral, nice faint citrus, light malts. Faint lemons.

T - Taste is bitter oranges, little bit of pine, faint malts. Finish is nicely bitter, little grassy floral notes too. Not getting any alcohol.

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated, crisp, clean.

O - Overall this beer was tasty, nice cascade notes, however, I prefer single hop cascade to this by far.

T - Light floral perfume, oranges, juicy ruby grapefruit and spicy tropical fruit with a spicy tropical fruit rind and peppery finish.

M - Medium body with smooth carbonation.

O - Would love to have this one in my fridge year around.

Poured from a 750ml Hill Farmstead growler into a Hill Farmstead tulip at low altitude in NY. Looking forward to enjoying a full glass of this after sampling it at the brewery.

A: Pours a gradient reddish orange with a think stark white head of little retention. Leaves plenty of lacing on the glass as it goes down.

S: Citric Cascade hops with a bit of malt backing. A bit of alcoholic heat here as well.

T: Citric hops up front with a bit of resinous character to follow. The sweet malt body helps to offset the hop bitterness, but I think it could be a bit more balanced. The bitterness is a bit overwhelming.

M: Medium-bodied with plenty of carbonation. Dry finish. Suits the flavors well.

O: In true Hill Farmstead fashion, this is a straightforward beer that highlights a single hop. However, it's not among the best DIPAs I've tried in recent memory.

64oz, filled 4/12/13, drank 4/20/13
5oz mini snifter

A: Pours a cloudy orange color. Bright white head. Sticky lacing is getting left on the glass. Still good carbonation.

S: Again, big fruity hops. Orange. Tangerine. Citrus. But here you are getting more of a malt present (both visual and on the nose). Definitely more body than the first two I had today.

T: Nice rush of bitterness on tip of tongue. Grapefruit. Orange. Citrus. More malt here than others. Dry finish. Lingering hop resin.

M: Medium bodied.

750 mL growler poured into a snifter.

Appearance - Hazy without much head. The thinnest of collars. A few loney islands.

Smell - Lots of grapefruit hops. Very citrusy. A little bit of sweetness.

Taste - Grapefruit and a bit of creaminess. Less intensely hoppy. Grainy hops. Low bitterness.

Mouthfeel - The creaminess is a little odd, but not off putting. Very drinkable. Low carbonation.

Overall - Straightforward but very good. Less impressive than the other Society & Solitude variants.

Enjoyed on tap at Blackback Pub in Waterbury, VT

Fills the glass with a nice hazy orange and bright white head. First aroma is all Cascade. Reminds me a lot like a beefier SN Pale Ale. Lots of pine on the nose and just a bit of citrus in the background.

Pine resin and floral hops flavors right up front with the first sip. Pleasantly bitter, more so than some other HF DIPAs I've had. Nice creamy and smooth mouthfeel. Overall, not my favorite of the S&S series but still a damn enjoyable beer.
