Growler pour out of my HFS glass. Just a few days old now.

A- A bright orangey mango color with a healthy white head. It's pretty murky and hazy, but still has a nice glow to it. It almost looks like some fruit juice of sorts.

S- Sweet hops and pineapple. Scents of mango and tangerine are also present. The smell is not terribly piney, but still has incredible depth. Not terribly strong, but what I'd expect from an IPA.

T- Extremely smooth at first, with a very nice blend of goodness that follows. A nice balance of citrus and sweet fruitiness. I get lots of tangerine and pineapple, with hints of hop pine. Finishes with a crisp dry hoppy finish, and a lemon hoppy aftertaste.

M- As always, spot on. Higher carbonation, but suits the style.

O- Overall, another solid IPA from Hill Farmstead. I definitely can see that this utilizes some of their different hop varieties, as it is a very interesting blend of sweet hoppiness with some bold dry flavor. It's a little dry to rank too high up on my list, but I would never complain about drinking this.

A - hazy marigold in color. Thick pearly white foam with decent retention. Leaves spatters of lacing against the hill farmstead stemware.

S - a bit tight upon first few sniffs but a few good swirls and some time to warm it opens up nicely. Notes of sweet orange peel, zippy lime, grapefruit pulp, and hints of unripe mango. An undercurrent of earthy pine and peppery spice add depth to the nose.

T - simple malt profile of crusty bread. Lime zest is the dominate flavor with strong grapefruit rind bitterness plays off notes of pine needles intensifying the bitterness. some tropical fruit undertones of papaya and mango. Finish is crisp and dry with just a hint of lingering bitterness.

M - soft and pillowy texture. Medium carbonation.

O - solid ipa. Love the mouthfeel on this one. Really make the difference.

Poured from a fresh growler into a modified tulip glass.

A - Hazy, dank, grapefruit orange, rugged froth cap, lacing for the entire time. Gentle dance of carbonation on the perimeter.
S - Mango, passion fruit, calla lily. A hint orange rime. Tropical all the way.
T - Mirrors the nose, lots of tropical fruit, with a fine malt dance. Not bitter in the least. A striking balance. At 6% there ins nothing to hide here. Fantastic body. Sorry Susan
M - Medium bodied, fabulous coating across the palate. No big sweep of oil, and a rich finish.
Does not finish bone dry. Delightful.
O - This IPA is just about perfect, bucks the trend of over the top hop monsters.
Achieves a delicate dance and a long backwards glance. This is worth every effort to taste.

Cheers

Thanks to jfmamj for hooking me up with this one.

Beer pours a hazy golden-orange with a moderate white head - looks like most other HF IPAs. Smell is a very nice citrus-forward aroma with a bit of grassiness, impressive, but I'm not sure it's quite up to the level of some of the best hoppy HF beers, it's not overpowering like I usually expect from these guys. Flavor takes it up a notch - this blend of hops, likely due to the Riwaka, gives it a pretty unique flavor profile, it's very citrusy up front and has a flavor I can't quite put my finger on (likely the Riwaka hop, which I haven't had much of). Finish is orange peel-y bitter. The beer isn't as big and hoppy as most of the HF IPAs are, particularly in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium-bodied with nice carbonation. Overall, this is another great beer from Hill Farmstead, but I think the fact that it's a single IPA instead of a DIPA keeps it from being a smash hit, as the flavor doesn't get as big as I'd hoped. That said, another well done, hoppy beer from HF.

750 mL growler poured into a snifter. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Hazy golden yellow. Small white head. Wispy surface.

Smell - Tons of simcoe. Deeper whiff reveals mango and tropical fruits. I don't love simcoe, but this smells great.

Taste - All hops. Simcoey grapefruit at first. Grainy cracker malt. Switches dramatically to citra-like hop flavors in the finish. Tastes like mangoes in the end.

Mouthfeel - Light. Well carbonated and a touch of bitterness.

Overall - It takes a lot for a simcoe IPA to win me over, but this did.

Poured from the growler into my Urthel glass. Split with my brother.

Appeared a hazy, orange/goldish color with a robust white head.

Smelled of grapefruit and citrus, as well as some honey.

Taste is delicious - very refrehsing. Some lemon and earthy tones detected. Alcohol non existent.

Mouthfeel was spot on, just the right amount of carb, nice tartness and malts to back the hops.

Overall a delicious IPA. Not the greatest ever but definitely nice.

Pour is a hazed golden amber with a bubbly white head. Nose is powerful citrus and grapefruit hops. Subtle grain notes and a hint of a malt backbone. Taste is so gentle and focused, tropical fruits everywhere, mango, grapefruit, peach skin. Light grain notes. Bitterness is present through the finish with a fairly inviting palate, extremely soft body, crisp clean finish, tropical fruits gently linger. This stuff is darn good.

Growler courtesy of msquared2 and split with my Aunt Susan for her birthday. Thanks Morgan!

Susan pours a medium bodied very cloudy tangerine orange I'm color with a great one finger, bright white and soapy head. The nose is bright and citrusy with a slightly earthy and grassy, mellow hop character. The flavors are very well rounded. There is a lot of citrus up front followed by a spicy bready malt aspect. It finishes with a soapy grassy note that interesting and a little yeasty. It drinks light and soapy and an off dry. I really like it. For an IPA it is very unique. The three hop varietals work very well together. Hats off to Sean Hill. This one worked.

64oz growler
Filled 1/19/13 (drank at 2 weeks)

A: Pours out the typical HF hazy bright yellow orange color. Still some carbonation after nearly two weeks, I love it! Bright white head with tight tiny bubbles. Leaves some sticky lacing bits on the glass.

S: On the nose, got lots of citrus fruits. Really light on the malt bill. Citrus and some pine notes.

T: Taste follows the nose. Really awesome fruity, citrus and pine IPA. Low on the malt bill, but still some what balance on the palate. Not overly bitter, but you do get that hit right up front on the touch. The finish is dry with some lingering hoppy flavors.

M: Medium bodied.

On tap at Roscoe Village Pub, in conjunction with WLV for Zwanze 2012.

A: Bright yellow body, nice white head.

S: Fresh grapefruit juice and mango in the nose. Some mild herbal notes and light pale malt behind.

T. Drier than the nose, but still with a good balance of juicy vs. dry/bitter. Pithy orange, dry grass, sweet bready finish. Plenty of citrus and tropical notes to keep things interesting.

M. Light-bodied with bright carbonation.

O. Very good IPA, but that's not too surprising considering who we're dealing with.

Growler filled November 15 and consumed on the 17th. From notes.

A - Poured a cloudy orange colour with good carbonation. Two fingers of soapy white head. Really good lace rings and a film of retention.

S - Zippy hops. Orange, grass, passionfruit. Lotsa citrus.

T - Nice tropical character, floral, citrus, orange, mango, peach, honey. Quite juicy and fruity, mild malt character. Complexity of hop flavours is really nice.

M - Good carbonation, medium body, nice bitterness.

O/D - This was a good IPA. The Riwaka worked really well with Citra and Simcoe. I really enjoyed this one. The depth of hop flavours was really pleasant. Well done.
