Mary was Edward's mother and our great-grandmother. A German-style pilsner brewed with our well water, American 2-row malt, our favorite German hops, classic German lager yeast.

A spot-on German pilsner. The bright golden clarity on the pour portends the crisp flavor to come. The nose is dough and biscuits. The flavor parade starts bready and malty and brings in grass, floral and citrus with a delightfully dry finish. So authentically Reinheitsgebot that it took me back decades when I would enjoy a fresh imported DAB pilsner. Thanks for the memories!

On draft at Uptown Beer Co., Portland, OR. Served in a pint tumbler.

Look:
This is a slightly hazy straw gold beer capped with a finger of dense white foam. The head shrinks pretty quickly to a persistent skin and leaves majestic lacing as intricate as a black metal band logo.

Smell:
Classic doughy Pilsner malt with piquant floral/herbal hops and a slight yeasty note.

Taste:
Starts off with semi-sweet bready malt, which dries out through the middle and ushers in a fine cast of hop flavors: grass, bitter herbs, a breath of licorice, a touch of wintergreen. The delicate yeasty note that was promised by the nose adds an appealing rustic touch to the clean profile. Finishes crisp and snappy with firm bitterness and satisfying malt flavor.

Feel:
Light-bodied with moderate carbonation. Soft, quenching, and super easy to drink.

Overall:
Hill Farmstead Mary is a tasty and well-made German-style Pilsner. I particularly like the hop flavors and the soft mouthfeel. The subtle yeasty note adds character. I'm glad I got to try this.

On tap at Sabatinis in Exeter pa earlier this evening.

Looks splendid in the glass. Clear pale golden yellow body. Decent bright white head persists in good form throughout leaving thick rings of lacing.

Delicate aroma, sweet malt, a touch grassy.

On tasting, very drinkable, 3 or 4 chugs before I calmed down. Slightly sweet, and the back end is a slightly dry hoppy note.

Mouth above medium, finish that lingering dry hop bitterness following a sweeter wash.

Overall, enjoyed this one a lot. Very sessionable, could drink this all night long. Clean drink.

(10 oz pour in a trumpet Pilsner glass as the 'Intermezzo' during Zwanze Day '22 at Monk's... no notes taken, reviewed from memory)

A rather elegant Pils with expressive, earthy-herbal hop flavors... punchy, but not bitey or bitter... does it sound off that this came across more like a Belgian take (hopping, mellow/delicate malt flavors) on a German Pils?... I kept eyeing up the other glasses they were pouring from a pitcher, hoping to score another... just another of the few beers of theirs I've tried that's urging me more to take my first trip up there for a visit (2041)

4 months old. Can to wine glass.

L: Pours a slightly opaque golden yellow with a fluffy white head that dissipates quickly leaving just a tiny bit of lacing. No floaters.

S: Grassy and herbal. Notes of lime zest, green apple and licorice. Malty and slightly sweet.

T: Malty and sweet with a pleasantly bitter finish. Ripe yellow apples paired with grassy notes and hints of almonds.

F: Crisp and clean, but also somehow full-bodied. Medium carbonation.

O: Great Pilsner that is crisp and crushable as well as full-bodied and balanced at the same time. You can easily drink a few of them, but just as well indulge over a single one.
