Our Coffee Stout is rich and smooth with just a hint coffee flavor. It is crafted using five different malted grains, which results in dark color and flavors of chocolate and heavily roasted malt. We then partnered with Des Moines based U.S. Roasterie to select a Mocha Java coffee to add depth and flavor to beer. We think it turned out great and hope you will agree!

A - Pitch black with an average sized, frothy, smooth, creamy, sandy beige head. Decent retention leaving a thin, creamy lace.
S - Definitely dominated by roasted black coffee. Touches of roasted malt and chocolate but it plays second fiddle to the coffee. A faint smokey/peaty and earthy aroma.
T - Like the nose suggested, the flavor is dominated by dark, roasted coffee. There is a slight coffee astringency, but not too much. Slight creamy and mocha flavors along with the normal coffee. Mid sip to finish there is more of the slight smokey/peaty flavor along with a slight tartness. Slight bittersweet chocholate toward the finish as well.
M - Medium body with average carbonation. Very slick and smooth.
D - Goes down easy with a good body and nice taste. A little too much coffee to have me want it on a regular basis, but nice enough flavor.
Notes: Tons of coffee flavor. Not bad flavor, although it is a little too unbalanced toward coffee. As I was really disappointed in the IPA, I wasn't expecting much, but it ended up being a decent beer. Still could use some tweaking, but it seems like they learned a bit from the IPA. I liked it, but can't see myself getting it regularly (both for the price and the unbalanced coffee).

From my notes; drank several years back.
Poured from the bottle into a glass.
Black hole; no light passes.
Small dark khaki head which dissipates; thick lacing throughout.
Creamy smell with notes of coffee. Smells good!
Medium mouthfeel.
The taste is of coffee & cream; light hops on the back end add an edge. Very easy to drink and enjoy. Solid entry in the genre.

Poured from 12-ounce bottle into clear glass coffee mug. Deep brown color, with a substantial dark tan head that lasts quite a while and leaves a touch of spotty lacing. Aroma and taste are very coffee forward (the "just a hint..." in the brewer's notes notwithstanding). Dark roasted espresso bean, roasted malt, some dark chocolate, and nice coffee bitterness. Mouthfeel is silky and full, finish is clean with a little lingering bitterness. There is a bit of acidic tartness that is right in the coffee drinker's wheelhouse. Overall, this is an excellent brew. The strong coffee presence might be off-putting, but you can't say you weren't warned!

Sampled yesterday on 11/28/15. This one came in a 650ml (22 ounce) single bottle from Hy-Vee for $5.49. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured in to a "STORZ" 12 ounce snifter.
Brew pours a pitch-black in color with a good 1+-finger creamy beige head. Lots of sheet-like lacing is seen after each sip that stuck to the sides of the glass. Aroma is of fresh brewed black coffee and dark roasted malts. Taste pretty much follows the nose with the first 2 sips being slightly bitter but was much better after that with maybe a very light hint of some cocoa powder also. Not much at all if there was actually. Medium to full-bodied with perfect carbonation.

Coffee Stout pours a black color, with a small lacing head. There is a strong fresh coffee aroma. The taste has a nice mellow coffee flavor, with very mellow toasted notes. Weaker flavors overall, but noticeable coffee flavors. Overall its an easy drinking coffee stoutl

Pour out of a bomber bottle. Dark black pour with a medium sized tan head. Aroma of coffee is instant with a little dark chocolate on the nose. First few sips were a bit too much bitter coffee but the longer that this one sits the better it starts to taste. Would buy again.
