Bottle 209/593. Picked up from the brewery. Definitely interested to see how Blackfoot River does with their first stab at a Belgian style beer.
Appearance: Pours a deep ruby color with quite a bit of carbonation. About 1" of caramel colored head forms, which has nice retention and decent lacing.
Smell: Unexpected. Lots of raisin and fig, with some esters present as well. Honestly, not much in the way of yeast or Belgian characteristics.
Taste: Very similar to the smell. Some apparent dark fruits, mainly raisin and fig, with a bit of candied sugar as well. Again, yeasty or Belgianesque characteristics are pretty much absent.
Mouthfeel/Overall: Medium-light body, with a nice amount of carbonation. Very pleasant in this category. Overall, wasn't what I was expecting at all. Definitely not a bad beer or something that's hard to drink, this beer just seems totally confused and out of style. Seemed closer to a quad (possibly), or some sort of Belgian style old ale (a style I just made up, for all I know).

Drunk at Philipsburg Brewfest 2013
Appearance- unfiltered golden light brown, thin lace
Smell- Sweet with light citrus tones, not too noticeable but present earthiness
Taste- hop oiliness noted, bread and yeast abundant, sweet light maltiness
Mouthfeel- Medium/light bodied and moderately dry
Overall- great beer without a super heavy feel
Serving type: on-tap
