I picked up a bottle of Oddside's Funk Soul Brother for $9.99 at The Lager Mill. I'm a fan of sour IPA's and i'm interested to see how this one turns out, so lets see how it goes. 2016 Vintage. Poured from a brown 500ml bottle into a teku.
A- The label looks good, it's got a nice design and it's eye catching. It poured a orange amber color that took on more of an orange color when held to the light with half a fingers worth of bubbly off white head that died down to a thin ring that eventually faded away and it left some nice spotty lacing behind. This is a good looking beer, I have no complaints.
S- The aroma starts off with a slightly higher amount of medium sweetness with a nice sour fruit aroma being the first to show up and it imparts a medium sourness with some nice apricot like aroma with some nectarine and mangoes showing up in the background and it's followed by some noticeable funky yeast. Up next comes the hops which impart more fruity and tropical fruit aromas with some floral hops showing up in the background and it leads into the malts which are a little on the lighter side and they impart a slightly grainy, pale malt and light sweet malt like aromas. This beer has a very nice aroma it's got a nice blend of sour, funk and hops.
T- The taste seems to be very similar to the aroma and it starts off with a medium amount of sweetness with the sour fruits still being the first to show up and they impart the same fruity aspects that they did in the aroma and it's followed by the hops which impart more fruit hop flavors with just a little more floral hops than I got in the aroma. Up next comes the sourness which is on the higher end of medium and it's followed by a little more of that malt aspects that I got in the aroma with more of those white bread and malty flavors coming through. On the finish there's a little bit of lingering sourness with some nice fruity and malty aftertaste. This is a very nice tasting beer, it's got some good flavors that work well together.
M- Smooth, slightly refreshing, not too acidic, on the lighter side of being medium bodied with a medium amount of carbonation. The mouthfeel is good, but I wish it had just a little more carbonation.
Overall I thought this was a very nice beer and very nice example of a sour IPA, it had all the aspects that I look for in the style with just the right amount of balance to bring all the flavors together to make for one tasty beer. This beer had nice drinkability, I'll have no problem drinking the rest of the bottle and I think it would be nice on a warm day. What I like the most about this beer is the balance, it was great and just where it needed to be, no single aspect ever got too overpowering. What I like the least about this beer is the carbonation, I wish it had just a little more. I would for sure buy this beer again and I wouldn't mind a couple for the cellar. I would recommend this to anyone who likes sour IPA's, it's just a very nice example of the style. All in all I was a little impressed with this beer, the more I try these sour from Oddsides the more I seem to think that they are getting better with style and you can tell they are putting some major work into some of these beers. It's one of the better Oddside beers I've had and it's a very nice example of Sour IPA. Great job guys, this is one tasty sour IPA, keep it up.

Poured a slightly hazed orange with a finger of white head that disappeared pretty quickly.
Smells tart and fruity, green apple and peach mainly but some lemon too. Not as much funk as I expected from the name.
Taste is lemony tartness, biting into a crabapple, the peachiness gives it a little sweet taste. Still a jaw tingler.
Light to medium bodied with good carb levels.
Overall a good sour from a brewery I usually associate with stouts.
